It was Earth Day. I went ditch diving in celebration. The problem with this stuff is that if people see someone else has treated the land badly, they follow suit. There is a man who goes around and picks up beer cans and bottles to claim the return $. I'd give him a bag to pick up the rest for me!
I left them on the side of the road, and sent an email to the township to let them know. I wasn't happy standing there. The traffic is fast.
One bag full. Am I ever tired! There didn't seem to be as much garbage as in previous years. Then I remembered I'd only done 1/2 of the distance I wanted to do.
In April, 2024, the kids helped me Spring ditch diving! Last year I had three bags full. Earth Day 2019 I gathered up 7 bags of garbage, but I went farther up the highway that year.
I went back out Thursday, and finished up the other half. I ended up with two bags total. All of the highway on our frontage has been done. I was exhausted, scrambling up the sides of the hill.
What a day!

Good job. I hope you don’t feel that you have to go dumpster diving.
Ahhhh! It was Earth Day! I enjoyed it by hiking! One of the cool things about most of our State Parks and Reserves in this area is that people don't toss trash on the trails.
If they do, we other folks pick it up as we walk, bike, or ride equine.
I am always disgusted by those who toss trash.
Well done on your collection. I returned soda bottles yesterday -- they stack up during the winter! Our bottle deposit is such a good thing -- the can/bottle litter has significantly decreased. But ours are only on carbonated soda and beer so water bottles don't count and consequently aren't always picked up.
You are great! I hope others take the example that you have set and pick up some trash.
Amazing effort, your dedication shows. The earth needs more people like you.

I certainly applaud your effort to pick up trash from the highway. I know there's lots as I used to pick up trash.
Well done and the earth thanks you, as well as we who drive there ... evn if seldom.
A weird thing I saw once. I was on holiday in Africa and crossed the border from Zimbabwe into Botswana. The verges of highways and streets were pristine, clean in Zim. In Botswana the verges were littered with pop cans, candy wrappers, etc, yech. We could only reflect that the level of poverty in Zim was such that there were no pop cans and candy but that Botswana was better off. No verge cleanup was seen by us in the months we were in Zim. so it was not good manners.
That is hard work! We used to do our road, but then we both had knee issues, and now Larry has hip issues. Getting old is not fun.
Very well done on your collection.
All the best Jan
Yay! Good for you! That really was a huge job.
Ist hier in Deutschland auch nicht anders, es liegt sehr viel Müll in der Natur. LG Romy
