Cold on Crumbly Acres

What a crazy way to being the new year. Our local two hospitals have gone to an orange code. Flu is everywhere.

The map shows Ontario's respiratory virus test results.

More snow! I decided a snowshoe trek would be just the thing. There are lots of tracks from Labbit. We had more snow Jan. 3rd.

This is to remind me of Labbit's visitation.

She is borrowing Fred's burrow. I could see dirt around the entrance. Fred and Fred's daughter are hibernating.

Fred has dug 6 burrows over the past few years.

There was frost at the other opening. This is the location in the side of the hill.

At the property marker in the forest I found a piece of orange tape, meant to mark the marker. I think the coyotes have been having fun. Little twerps!

Out back I spotted vole tracks in the snow. Where the tracks stop, the rodents burrow under the snow. I checked it out.

It reminds me of that movie with the sand worm: Dune, I think. Only in miniature. And in snow.

Good to see your snowshoe walk! Here no snow, but a vole has found my front flower bed to be nice and soft enough to play underneath the surface. Since nothing is allowed to be planted right in the bed, I can have pots of plants on top of it if I wish...per apartment rules. For now I will have enough pots of plants just on my porch...whenever the days of frost are behind us.

This is no time to have to visit the ER. What a predicament!

Charlie adores following those vole tracks in the snow. He leaps about as if he is an artic fox.
That chart is pretty frightening.

I always find it fascinating how many critter tracks show up in the snow. One would never think there are that many things wandering around until you see their tracks. You certainly have a plethora of them, that's for sure!

It looks like it was a fine day to be out on the snowshoes.

I'm glad Labbit is hanging in there. It would take a lot to get me to the ER -- flue is rampant here, too, and I'm trying to stay out of crowds as much as possible. That chart is scary!
