♪♫ We shall gather at the river ♪♫♩♪

The Canada Geese have begun to return. Hoards fly overhead, gathering at the river. I drove by them, on Richmond Road, just south of Twin Elm, west of Ottawa. I miss my lakefront seat in Muskoka, but enjoy them as I pass by. Harbingers of spring. They stand about on the ice, waiting for things to warm up. The wind was wicked, the passing traffic noisy!

Mergansers are usually the first to return to still-frozen lakes, the rivers run more quickly and thaw sooner than bays, but the mallards hold their own.

Enjoy the posts of geese. It reminds me of my time in the arctic when millions of geese arrived before the ice melted. They stayed for weeks on the ice waiting for it to thaw.

Great series of shots. The geese and ducks seem to be on the move. Thye do not seem to mind the icy and frozen waters.

Lovely bird pictures! The sky looks so blue even with the snow -- hope spring is near.
