Lake and rivers

We had more snow on Thursday, March 6th. Only 5 cm. The sidewalk was in such good condition, too! Back to shovelling.

Our conservation authority has sent out flooding warnings. The reason is that the ground is still frozen, and it cannot absorb the quick melt water. We are good here, thankfully. We are atop a hill, with lower wetland around us. Some may have problems with water pooling around their well, or full ditches. We'll see what happens. 

 I mentioned our lunch out. The drive was good. It does look bleak, but it is beginning to warm up overall.

This is a major store for farmers in our area. It is closing its Canadian stores. 😞

  Our winter lights are still going. It's a beacon in the dark. This is an example of where not to put the trailcam. The post gets a lot of light. The snow has melted some, but it is tricky walking in the forest.

I think the critter I've been tracking is Butch Raccoon!

 

Meantime, out front, a lone turkey. He is doing clean up in aisle 8 under the feeder.

 

Lunch out!

My client cancelled Thursday. Joe suggested we go out to lunch or dinner. Off we went to Smiths Falls for lunch.

I've noticed this silo over the years. They tore down the top and seem to be rebuilding it. You can see someone using the snowblower.

The river is frozen over, it's got snowmachine tracks and fishing huts on it. You just have to embrace winter!

Parking lots have lots of snow piled up, I noticed on our first stop. It may that some this week. Slowly, I hope. It's going to be above zero this week. A slow melt is much preferable!

Icicles drip from some homes, towns are struggling with snow removal. 

We tucked in for lunch. 

What I like about ordering a large, as opposed to a lunch-sized meal, is I take half home for dinner the next night. 

We drove through Lombardy. This home, on 0.5 acres, is for sale again. There was an open house Sunday. It has a lot of history. My 97-year-old client (who passed away during COVID of natural causes) told me about its past uses. Bakery, post office, the addition was removed as it was well beyond its best before dare.

Let's all have us a good week. Calmer heads prevail. We've a 🇧🇲 provincial election for Thursday. I am not hopeful. 

Off to Smiths Falls

After my haircut in Carleton Place  we made it to Smiths Falls, where they have repainted the Gay Pride crosswalk. It was advocated for by Trinity United Church. They must have touched it up for Gay Pride month, which is June. It was created in 2023, and a week later it was defaced by some one with hate in his heart. They have him on video, but he wore a disguise, not having the confidence of his convictions! 

I do not understand how people get away with being homophobic in 2024. One couple, whose lawn sign was stolen from their home in Kemptville, replaced it and said, 

“To whomever removed the Pride sign from our lawn overnight, we woke up even gayer than when we went to bed,” Scott Godwin posted. “I’m so gay today I can barely keep my feet on the ground and I’ve kissed my boyfriend like six times already this morning,” the post continued. 

We drove by May 16th, around 4 p.m. I read in the news:

Smiths Falls police arrest man for hate-motivated mischief, assault after incident at pride flag crosswalk

They arrested the offender who spit on a Smiths Falls employee repainting the flag. 

I was quite impressed by this well-dressed man cruising through town! 

It was time for dinner, by this point. We cracked the windows on the car, hoped my new plants would be fine in the hot car, and sat on the patio. The music was too loud, and the group behind us was loud to hear one another. But we were outdoors. WHAT THE HECK!

On the way home...  his third flag was Every Child Matters. I wonder what they do to gas mileage?

Apparently, 'gun rights are human rights!'  This is what it is like in this county. They want freedom to do whatever they want. You just have to laugh at such ignorance. Imagine living in Ukraine, Gaza or Haiti, to name but a few.

We were happy to arrive home. I have plants to plant! The swallowtails are back, happy the lilacs are blooming. It was 27 ℃ and I planted up a storm Saturday.

🛫 Our son, Jesse, and his wife, Stacie, are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary, which happens to occur on both their birthdays, May 19th. They call it their BIRTHIVERSARY! They were to attend a concert closer to home, but a work thing in Boston got in his way. New plan, they flew to California to a concert where the band was playing. I think Nana is child minding!

Do you think I needed a haircut?!

For $12 you can get an 'extended head massage.' It was to last 15 minutes. I arrived at 2:40 for a 3 p.m. appointment. They took me in at 2:45, washed my hair, gave me the head massage, and a haircut, and I was out by 3:14. Hhhhmmm. I don't think I'll do a massage again. 

After this, we popped into the garden centre. Is there anything better than being in a greenhouse after winter?!

Oh, the traffic was heavy! Everyone wanted to do 20km/h above the speed limit. The roads were really busy. It's often busy on the Thursday of a Monday long weekend. It's the weekend people tend to open their cottages.

Highway #7 has passing lanes, but Highway #15 people still want to drive 100km/h in an 80 km area.

We arrived in Smiths Falls for dinner. This dude was a bit of a mystery! He had two messages: NATIONALCITIZENSENQUIRY.CA and TALKTRUTH.CA  

I had to look them up when I got home. I shouldn't have wasted my time! People who believe their religion, or cause, or right wing conspiracies, should be shared! 

I'll finish my story tomorrow! Plus my new plants!
