McGyver, mice friends, et al

Things have been busy. I McGyvered the corkscrew! Caitlin gave me one after the last Hostage Exchange. (It wasn't holding the screw in.) I pulled the screw out, again! There must have been a cotter pin. I decided, rather than going out into the cold garage to find one, I would use a large piece of a paper clip. Hah!

We've critters out in the dark. I think the boot print was a grandie!

Does anyone remember this? We had a similar popcorn maker when I was a kid. Dad would make popcorn, and we'd watch The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.

I had moved the trailcam, the deer feb 12  decided it needed inspection!

The coyote is faint in this video, but you can see him lying down! Lesson learned, the tree was too close and absorbed a lot of the light. It's not the best trailcam I've ever had.

It might be a long winter!

Well, things are easing up here. Our colds are running their course. It's a long, slow process, though, with some setbacks. We're really taking it easy. Any exercise, and my lungs fill up. We've booked off sick next week, too. Hooray for sports and TV movies. Oh, and Angry Birds! My competitors are quite busy these days doing other things. I actually won a game!

I love data. I'm most often 2nd place.

I have to do groceries, but not on the weekend. I have to send some parcels, as well. Monday morning I'll get going. Maybe.

Trailcam Tales

This trailcam has begun to have issues. The button you push to open the battery holder is rusty. Seriously.

I've switched it from video to still photos.

Watch as she gets closer!

The better trailcam captured a doe walking by, closely followed by our buck. I think he is waiting for her to get into heat. Rutting season isn't over, yet! They are in heat for only 24 hours.

Road trip

I went to the auction house, again. It was Thursday, and I left at 3 p.m. I can't tell you what I bought, but three similar things for our three girls (Caitlin, Josephine –who turns 12 on Monday, and Isabelle). They were open from 4 - 6 p.m. for pick up.

It was a lovely drive, with lots of homes decorated for Christmas, and others that just look interesting.

I picked up a double order of fish and chips and ceasar salad for dinner. It lasted us two days. Yippee!
It's been cold, and getting colder then warmer. Weird weather patterns.

I'm wondering if I should clean off the driveway. There is some snow on the way. It's all going to melt, though. Sigh. I might just save my energy.

Trip to Stittsville

I had to go for a consult for cataract surgery. We knew a storm was coming. We left the safety of town.

We made it to Stittsville. My 1:20 appointment was 45 minutes late. I had my eyes examined by Sandra. She gave me drops, and told me to wait in the darkened room. The dilation is quite something. She asked if I'd had this done before. I refrained from snorting. I'd had a full exam a week ago. Not only that, but I've been wearing glasses since I was 9 years old. sigh. This was before Sandra was born.

In I went. One family had a translator in with them. It sounded like they were speaking Russian, or something close to this. It came my turn. The Dr. pulled me in, looked in my eye balls. Said I have 20-20 vision with glasses. I explained that I was becoming increasingly agitated by it. The one eye is cloudy, the other is getting worse. It was a pretty fast onset, you see.

I asked if there is any reason not to get it done now. He said, no. The procedure has come a long way in even the last 10 years, he told me.

He said I am young to have this condition, but it's not totally unusual. I decided on doing the procedure, and I'll get both eyes done to correct my astigmatism, and while OHIP covers the procedure, it doesn't cover the replacement lenses.

Appointment done, off we headed back home. By now it was 3 p.m. The clouds were building.

I love this Perth home!

The senior's residence is coming along!

Apparently, we beat the storm and found some blue skies.

We were getting close to home, and I suggested we go eat by the water. The storm was forming to the north. As it did, the geese began to come into the area between the island and the mainland. Perhaps for protection?

Watch, as it just got darker and darker!

A trio left, and we finished up our dinner. We were alone in the growing dark!

Four fellas sat down just as we were leaving, and the lightning had begun. I bet they went indoors!

At home, I went to lightningmap.org and saw it all coming. You can have the setting show you how many lightning strikes there were in the upper left corner of the grid.

Thursday night, there were thousands without power. Quebec had nearly 30,000 out.

Down at the frog pond the next day, you can tell something windy happened! The grasses are flattened!
