Our circle of influence is small here. We are retired, don't socialize much, but we watch and discuss the horrific news.
With the heat wave, going out is quite something. This isn't normal for June for us.
I sent Joe out for an early morning walk. It's good to keep moving. MiniFred kept an eye out!
The deerflies are out in full force. Cinnamon is not happy. He hunkers down in the garden.
Poor Cinnamon had a deerfly bite, I believe. I parked him on the table to have a look at eye level. He was fine the next day!
Then, there are the poor deer! They really suffer.
Froggy seems happy.
Others didn't quite make it through the storm unscathed.Despite evacuations from campsites, there were three incidents I heard of where campers had trees blown on tents or trailers. Thank goodness for emergency responders. There was one death, another where a camper van was struck by trees and the man had his leg broken:

Look at the milkweed! The purple petunias are doing well, and smell wonderful.

Oh that's terrible about the campers' damages. Rain storms have certainly changed with climate change. Glad to hear first responders could help.
We're due for big thunderstorms tonight. I'd like to think they will cool things off but who knows? Probably just more humidity.
Froggy is definitely happy, you can see the froggy smile on his face!

I guess the deer flies are similar to mosquitos and they bite the deer. so sad. Do you all have to spray for them? Looks like you all have had a lot of rain. looks green and lush around there.
Gosh, that looks awful! Thankful to all first responders at times like these and hope everyone in that area stayed safe. Nice to see Joe on his walk. I need to get out but the temperature has been in the mid 90s and very humid. Good to know Cinnamon is okay after her bite. Yes, poor deer! The scarlet tanager photos are lovely! Hopefully you have some bird eggs soon. Love the flowers. I've never seen a deer fly around here. There are plenty of wasps, mud daubers and hornets though.

No, not silly. I leave all of the milkweed too, even if the mad chopper wants to clear the verges. (We have a neighbour who is Tidy. He mows off the wildflowers and is not impressed with me.)
It is tragic, the camper who was crushed by the downed tree. I am sure the park staff would have been giving 110% effort on the finding and warning, but that family was way off the regular routes as far as I can see.
That was a vicious storm with injuries and a death. House wrens will build nests to keep other birds from using the location.
What a horrible storm.
I don't think you're at all silly to let the bugloss grow, it's a lovely plant and I'm always pleased to see it in bloom around Edinburgh.
