Hotel Kenny: Jones Falls

We stayed over at Hotel Kenney June 24th, after watching the South Winds paddler brigade come in, stay over, and depart for Ottawa! (Brigades PART 2)

It's an old hotel (1877), dating from a long, long time ago for Canadian history. The newer motel-type rooms have air conditioning. They have modern conveniences, like Wifi!

They have a continual number of visitors. People tended to boat up for treats at the snack bar (which hadn't opened, as of June 24th) or to come from dinner. Many folks are just passing through the locks. It's a place with a lot going on. It took us a day to explore the area around the locks, (Tour of Jones Falls Museums). I met an interesting woman who had a cottage along the canal. She said her family had cottaged here for years. It's changed, she said. I would say she was in her 70s and she remembers her grandfather meeting friends here to have fishing weekends. The chairs lined the lawn. People were dressed differently, and there was a different atmosphere!

Lots of geese, and goslings around. There is a heron that visits back and forth, seeking morsels. The water snake was huge, looking for breakfast, as well.

That was interesting, finding out about Hotel Kenney. The whole boating world is not one I am familiar with. That's a healthy looking water snake!! -Jenn

you said the people were different, i wondered in what way??

it looks like a pretty spot, i'm always happy when there is a lot to see and do. i am also happy when an older place has air conditioning, i am not sure how people sleep without it!!

it "feels" like it is in the middle of nowhere!!!

Beautiful scenes, lovely place for a stop-over. Pity about the snake though, I would be a long way away. And the goslings, they are such a beautiful part of the baby bird world.
