Here is a shot of the canal from the fall. |
In honour of ice - we have to embrace winter in this climate. I just spent an hour chopping up the ice on the driveway.
My skates are NOT sharpened, I don't like crowds in my retirement years, but I have been skating on the canal most years I lived near Canada's capital, (Nepean, North Gower, Osgoode, Manotick from 1981 - 2006!

Canada's capital |
You can see the shacks ready for hot beaver tail cooks!
I used to live beside a lake, and we cottaged there for 50 years. I loved the ice. We have few photos from winter before we moved there.
After 2006, we would walk the cats, and one year, March, 2009, I made some ice sculptures.
I won't deny that wine was involved, we call them 'docktails', and I have photo evidence to prove it. It's amazing how fresh and cold wine is by a frozen lake! Dressed for success in my down-filled yard duty coat!
Of course there are other kinds of ice!

This ice is the best kind! |

Almost an ice sculpture! |
One of my favourite shots...

Then there are the beautiful glacial-dumped Precambrian Shield rocks embedded in ice. |

The ice pictures are very impressive!
The rock embedded in ice and snow reminds me of one of the football helmets from yesterday's Superbowl game. We are having a warm sunny spell. It turning out to be a milder winter for sure. - Margy
Great photos, but now I am C-O-L-D!
The wine sounds fun though...
Jenn: Beautiful captures of the ice, we have had snow this year but the ice hasn't thickened on the lakes.
I'm glad you're not trying to skate on thin ice. Too many stories about vehicles doing that this year.
K
laughing at the 'docktails' and the ice cream cone! :) too cute!
thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment! hope you stay warm way up there!!! be safe!
Our winter has been so mild that ice hasn't formed on any of the lakes. That may mean that we'll have an abnormally cold Spring, but right now the ice in your photos is the most I've seen. I really like your photo of the ice on pine needles.
Icecream is winter to me. Strange, but I eat icecream only in winter whereas most people enjoy licking it in summer.
The picture with the canal and the tree in autumn colors is very beautiful!

Beautiful and interesting ice sculptures! Thank you Jenn for your congratulations!
Keep on skating. Don't give it up. skating is great for a lot of things. I skate once a week from the beginning of Sept to the end of April. It's great fun.
