GOUVERNEUR, NY — During a race, Donald L. Theriault, 53, from Fraserville, Ontario, hit a hay bale used as a barrier and was ejected. John A. Altman III, 47, Fulton, was unable to avoid hitting Mr. Theriault and his sled. Theriault died, Altman went to hospital.

Alcohol likely a factor in fatal snowmobile crash: OPP

An Oakville man who crashed his snowmobile into a rock and died early Sunday morning may have been drunk at the time, the Ontario Provincial Police say. Police found David Stott, 25, near Bigwin Island in Lake of Bays township around 7 a.m. They say he was thrown from his sled when he hit a rock cut.
They learned Stott was missing two hours earlier when they were called about another member of his group, Matthew Deleonardis, who had been hurt on the island.

EMC News - A pedestrian was released from hospital following a collision with a snowmobile Saturday. OPP from Sharbot Lake were on their way to a collision involving a snowmobile and a pedestrian in Sharbot Lake, Central Frontenac when they received a request to "expedite" by EMS at the scene who reported a confrontation between other pedestrians and the driver, noted Const. David Bird with the Perth OPP detachment. The driver was charged with careless driving. There were races being held on the lake.

Ethelston's snowmobile ran into the shoreline, which he had been following, Sgt. Tessier said.




Sled Crash Victims Identified

MUSKOKA LAKES: Two men died in a snowmobile crash on Milford Bay, Feb. 11, at 11:30 a.m. on a trail. Around 11:30 a.m., one of the sleds veered off the trail and crashed, killing the operator and passenger, cousins Rino and Antonio Mazzuca, both 51.

Speed was a factor in a fatal snowmobile crash east of Sudbury, Ontario Provincial Police said Monday. Allan Bell, 47, died on Saturday around 4 pm, when his snowmobile left the trail and struck a tree.
The three snowmobilers were on an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs labeled D104, between Sudbury and North Bay. The area was about 25 km north of Hagar in district 11, which is closer to North Bay than Sudbury.

Snowmobile accidents claim 5 lives in Canada

Two Nova Scotia men died in a head-on snowmobile accident this week, bringing the national toll to at least five since Friday.
Clifton Arnold Conrad, 65, of Enfield and Michael Roger Goodick, 42, of Port Hawkesbury died Saturday snowmobiling around Hunters Mountain in Cape Breton.
Snowmobile traffic had been heavy at the time, as a provincial snowmobile association had been meeting in the nearby town of Baddeck.

PARRY SOUND – The body of 18-year-old snowmobilier Jordan Mehlenbacher was recovered from Georgian Bay yesterday afternoon.

There were 4 snowmobiles in our bay yesterday jumping over the open water around a neighbours boathouse. They are first snowmobilers we've seen this year because the lake ice is so unstable......and so too must be their minds!
