Just because I'm on a roll, I thought I'd show my deer mouse photos.
I've featured the
shrew,
field mice, and here is this dear mouse!
They are sweet, with big deer-like ears. Dumb as bricks, with three cats around. They keep killing themselves in empty buckets.

Health Canada has found the virus in a very small percentage of deer mice tested in Northern Ontario.
Your chances of getting HPS are very low. Only rarely do people exposed to the virus become infected.

I've now caught 20 deer mice in the garage. Was it a bumper crop for mice this year? It was for shrews.

The deer mouse was probably very happy until you forced him to move on. :)
They are awfully cute, with those ears.
There was a big thing more than 10 years ago (I was still living in BC) about deer mice carrying some sort of disease. I'm sure the threat is long gone. I hope I'm sure, anyway.

Here we avoid deer mice as they carry the hanta virus which is pretty deadly to us.
Deermice are extremely cute and it's fun to watch them play.
They are cute unless they make it inside the cabin. We just had to drill the floor for a new propane line for our new refrigerator. I keep thinking of little mice squeezing through the tiny hole. I wanted to fill it, but our friend John recommended leaving a space to let any propane that could escape have a way out. - Margy
