Lunch at The Crossroads in Rosseau

The ongoing saga of our Toronto/Muskoka trip!
We were in the hotel in Gravenhurst, and e headed north to visit Bala (where we'd lived) and then for Rosseau for lunch, for the umpteenth time, then back down to Gravenhurst!

We were there in 2009: We're at the Crossroads and 2013: Lunch on a patio!

This is one of our favourite restaurants in Muskoka. Chefs Richard and Julie Lalonde
are fabulous. They met while working in the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. (My mom's hotel!)

Hubby worked with Julie in Bala, when he was delivering Meals on Wheels there. Their kids were small, then, and Richard worked in the hotel. While the Meals on Wheels client missed them, they were ready to take on a new challenge.

They bought The Crossroads and made it into a high end establishment.

Eventually, we know not when, they took out the gas station, adding a patio. It was a busy spot with cars. In winter snowmobiles would drive up for gas. It's hard enough juggling a family and restaurant, without the gas station. It's much more peaceful.

When we arrived the place was packed. They've built a screened in patio, and we joined a lively group from Barrie, who'd come up on motorbikes with a (yappy) dog! One of the women took our photo, not the one who liked to screech with laughter (you know the type!). In the meantime, the lunch crowd were leaving and I begged our server to see if there was a spot outside. (Summer is SO short!) They have well-trained staff, and he said he'd check with his manager.

It was a good meal, although hubby's tummy needed a rest the next day. We bought some lunch meat and wraps and ate in our kitchenette.

They found us a spot! The outdoor space now has musical evenings, under the stars, with the outdoor BBQ. The new gardens are amazing, although the daisies block the view of the lake. We miss lake life, but not the personal watercraft!

The bikers were doing selfies! Afterwards, we headed back to Gravenhurst, visited with Emily, and then went  back to the hotel.

Lunch on a patio: another great day!

Sir John came along that day.
It's always a great day when you can sit outside, listen to running water, and sip some wine! This was at Crossroads in Rosseau, Sept. 13th, 2009, in Muskoka.
We went out yesterday, despite scattered clouds, you can't look a gift day in the mouth.

We went into Smiths Falls for an errand, and stopped at Smiths Falls pub for lunch. It overlooks the museum and the dam.

IT sang, but its mouth was full!
On the patio, I spotted this robin busily working on a nest!

steamlined!
On the way back to the car:
Happy bike rider!
You might ask what these men were doing!
They were replacing a glass storefront window.

Muskoka Lakes Tour!

Mom & Dad's gravesite
Gotta love the Muskoka River!

One of our favourite drives!
Love the stained glass windows in Haliburton!
But we visited many spots, and had some good times. Since Sir John featured in a previous tour, it was Muffin Muncher who went into lunch at Rosseau.

It was a whirlwind tour, what with our volunteer 'work'!

We're at the Crossroads

Well, yes. A crossroad between fall and summer. Most have left behind the cottage activities and the lazy days behind. The sun has begun its Autumnal Solstice and there is less warmth in the rays as the sun's axis changes. Not that we feel the cool temperatures of fall. Yet.

One of the last beautiful days to have lunch outdoors!

The sign of fall are here, but the temperatures have been warm and lovely.

We passed the memorial to the three young men who died in Minette after drinking and driving.

We drove to Rosseau to have a treat. To eat at Crossroads. Julie (home with the kids today!) and Richard (see below, chatting with customers), our owners and chefs, bought the place and are getting rave reviews and good press. Such a delightful view.

Our server, Meredith, had a great afternoon of it.

Working, but being able to serve outdoors on such a great day.

A fine day, with a fine Chardonnay in hand, I watched the boats in the bay.

As we drove home, hubby apparently wasn't driving quickly enough. He pulled over to let the maniacs pass by. A couple of sports cars and motorcycles. It is not a road that allows for much speed, with winding turns and a series of hills.

We chose to enjoy the colours of the trees, and appreciate the fine beauty of the scenery.
