First Responders: fire on Otty Lake

And locally, people set off fireworks on an island in the nearby lake. I counted 5 emergency vehicles go by. Forest fires are to be feared here. Our firefighters are volunteers.
From Facebook:

Fires cross the continent...

2 volunteer firefighters, 6+ police cars and 2 fire trucks.

Remembrance Day 2024

Ottawa has a big ceremony, which we watched on TV. We're aren't able to attend any ceremonies.  We've been to our fair share of them. When I taught, we would have prepared for a month for assemblies. The kids were eager to learn. We wrote poems, plays, skits, songs, learned about what went on in history. We talked to family about ancestors who served. Some of my students fled The Gulf War, the horrors and trauma in Vietnam. More recently, Canada has taken in many refugees from Ukraine, as well.

Don't listen to the Opposition Leader. Our PM Trudeau has NOT forbidden prayers at the ceremony. They continue to spread lies.

Remembrance Day flyovers were interesting. Ottawa has them, of course. And air traffic has been busy with interesting sightings.

They left town after the event.

More red maples

This is the last of the red maple leaves.

I put the garbage out Monday morning, and I'm happy I had these photos! The tree on the right is done. In the winds yesterday, these leaves were blowin' in the wind!

Out front, the doe has been hanging around. She's cleaned up the Hostas, which is fine, because they are wilting in the cool weather.

It's been sunny and balmy. Two more frogs have been relocated. I caught one, and left it in the bucket until I could get the other. It just hopped out and back into the goldfish pond. I caught it again, as well as this one.

Then, in the warmth and sun, another pair. I've moved 22.

There were so many planes out! I wonder how much it costs to fly these.

Eyes on the skies

Rainy days and indoor play is required!

When our kids were learning to drive, meaning between getting their licence and becoming an experienced driver, we had rules for their driving. There were many incidents in the news when teens, young drivers in a car with multiple passengers, wasn't a good combination.

The investigation continues into the fatal collision that killed 16-year-old Alex Cryer, a student at Granite Ridge Education Centre in Sharbot Lake last Thursday. There were 6 kids in the car, and they took the kids (ages 15 - 17) to hospitals in Perth, Ottawa and Kingston.

This plane visited several times to our area. Taking off from the Smiths Falls landing strip and going to Ottawa.

Circle of Influence

As everyone knows, the news is terrible. The 'right fight' AKA not so peaceful protests, is taking a toll on many. "They don't want to be heard – they want to be obeyed," to quote our Prime Minister. I am deliberately avoiding news saturation. I support the civilians who are the victims here, and those all around the world.

I am trying to stick to my lane, celebrating life here in Lanark. Sometimes, you just have to acknowledge what is going on, without getting sucked into the vortex of hate, anger, rage farming, and finger pointing.

I've been looking to the skies, near and far. The US is busy watching over Gaza. We do not know what countries are doing behind the scenes, but I am sure our civil servants are doing what they can.

The local flight club has been out and about. Oct. 27th.

Nov. 4th the flying club members have been busy.

Nov. 5th

This one was really noisy, but brief – it went so fast, Nov. 2nd. International Test Pilots School:

Nov. 7th, there was an emergency, as the crew went from Smiths Falls Hospital (which has been overburdened) to Kingston Hospital.

It came back from Kingston, right over my head in the afternoon!

It has been gradually getting colder, as is the way of the season! It was double-digits on Tuesday, and I realized I have 8 little froggies on their own. I hope there is enough muck in the pond to protect them.

three more – I didn't see 2 of them until I processed the image

I think I am about ready for winter. I did the Pagan Lights yesterday, but they need some work! Some strands are quite past their prime.
