Canadian detained in Canadian waters

Yes, two posts today, this one is shocking. They have released an attack on humans from near and far. People working for the government have been empowered to commit horrid attacks on humans.

U.S. Travel <= we're up to 35 cases of detained visitors. I've been tracking them. They have unleashed monsters.

Some U.S. governors have been in Canada, trying to convince Canadians to resume visiting the U.S., but we aren't having any of it. It is dangerous. The U.S. ambassador has been calling us 'nasty' for boycotting U.S. goods. At a Washington meeting, Ambassador Hoekstra was leading an attack on Canada.
"Ambassador Pete Hoekstra made the remarks about Canadians avoiding U.S. travel and booze when he was speaking at the annual Pacific NorthWest Economic Region Foundation summit in Bellevue, Wash."
The U.S. ambassador has been calling us 'nasty'

In the meantime, we had a horrible incident with a Quebec man simply fishing. The US Coast Guard rammed his boat, boarded, and arrested and jailed him. Canadians are getting really angry. What an horrific incident. The law is no longer protecting citizens. He was 15km north of the border, very familiar with these waters.

Travels and critters

 ๐Ÿ›ฌ U.S. travel

I am not worried, much. My son travels to the US on business Monday. I've been tracking what has been happening to US visitors, even with Visas. It's not pretty. I've spotted 22 incidents, and I am sure there are many more revoked Visas.

#22. ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Aussie ex-cop jailed & deported from US after cuffs, arrest, 3 cavity searches. She was terribly mistreated. Her husband is in the US military.

Birding has been strange. So cold, but the birds are still singing. Another single-digit ℃ morning!

The frog likes his rest spot, a piece of wood I threw into the pond.

I left the guest room door open. Cinnamon was looking for a snuggly spot! He landed on top of my repaired jacket, yet to be rehung.

This isn't too exciting looking, but #75 has ventured up a different tree. It'll be two week on Tuesday. There is progress.

When he went back into his box, he neglected to bring his tail in! I'm inclined to think he met a predator. I tossed his food ration out between these two tree and he leapt out of his box, and hustled up the tree.

She wanders away to feed, but they stay there by the hole. I don't know why they don't use the exit in the shed! She's moved two more rocks out. I guess renovations are continuous!

I love watching them. These sweet head bumps!

Another cute video of Fred and her kits. They will be gone before we know it.

Crumbly World

It has been lovely out. We had three deer visit (can you see them at the back there?), and the grass is sort of green! (Ignore the date stamp!)

Just as I was getting used to Spring, we had more snow! In fact it is snowing this morning. I have to get the garbage out.

Wild ranges of temperatures this past week.

The wild turkeys were scratching around for food.

This was an interesting capture, the dark-eyed junco fly past. Can you see it on the left?! This is a trailcam.

Poor Mamma Bear. The stakes are frozen in the ground and bent, but I cannot pull them out. I managed to slide her off the stakes and put her in the shed for summer.

And in ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canadian news, we're headed for an election on April 28th.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ I'll leave this here. There are a lot of athletes who will have to consider their safety.

Krome Detention Center

What a white woman of privilege. It is insidious, entrenched, and they don't know what they don't know. No, a white woman never experienced racism, gender bias, or any other LGBTQ+ issues. Go figgur.

I found this. Racism is entrenched in society. It is overt and not subtle for people of colour.

Protests are continuing on both sides of the border. Here is an interesting website. They are highlighting protests in the US, but there is an International-wide link. You can search for protests near you.

Stop U.S. travel; Canadian grocery stores

American Border Detentions

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canada is really pissed off. Many are in shock, especially our Canadian tourist detained by ICE. [my post: U.S. is Detaining Visitors]. The good news is that Alexis Eagles, mother of detained Jasmine Mooney, reports that Jasmine is finally home. A user on Bluesky has been tracking incidents.

1. Assistant professor on an H-1B visa from ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง Lebanon
3. Two tourists from ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Germany
4. Business consultant from ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canada, Jasmine Mooney (home after 2 weeks)
5. Student from ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡พ Syria with Green Card
6. Tourist from ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Germany on B2 visa, detained, degraded and deported
8. Fulbright student from ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India
9. Cree composer, Andrew Balfour, from ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canada, denied entry to perform at Carnegie Hall.
10. LGBTQ asylum seeker from Venezuela ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ช
11. A pair of musicians from N.S. were detained. A ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ touring folk duo, Cassie and Maggie MacDonald, with friends and family in U.S., stopped by arrogant state troopers. Worried about them pushing fentanyl.
12. French researcher detained March 9th.

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Germany has travel warnings for LGBTQ+ travelers going to the U.S.

Two more people with valid passports, have been detained in the U.S. I am posting this here, because I know that Americans aren't getting this news, judging by my small blog readership. Foreign governments cannot do anything. More snowbirds are selling property in Florida. Fewer Canadians (↓ 40%) are traveling to the U.S. In normal times, when Americans weren't afraid of others, people with VISA issues would simply be turned away and sent home. Now they are arrested, and dumped in a for-profit jail.

Even Americans are being targeted. He is doing it by invoking the rarely-used Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

If it was about money:

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Buy Canadian

๐Ÿ›’Canadians are roaming grocery store aisles, reading labels to figure out country origins. One consumer advocate has been advocating that we turn packages or cans upside down to show other shoppers that these are US products. It sure saves people time as we avoid them.

It's not just Canada, either. ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Denmark and ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช Sweden:

The administration is getting away with it using a 1798 law that dates back to old wars.

Social Security Cuts

This poor man in Seattle lost his Nov, Dec., Jan., and Feb. Social Security payments. Once you are declared dead, you cannot apply for a loan as they eliminate his credit rating. He says the phone calls (hours waiting)  and then the line ups to clear it up take hours with employee cuts.

Rain, lightning, NOAA

Puttering along through the last of winter. We expected 25mm rain, but that didn't materialize Saturday. It's pouring Sunday morning.

Aster, Jordan, and Papa went to a local parking lot to view the blood worm moon! They took a mattress and blankets. Mama is working her buns off these days both at work, and home, and took a pass. Sleep is pretty important.

I woke at 2 a.m. coughing, looked out all our windows, and couldn't see the moon. It's not visible until later in the wee hours. I didn't want to risk cats getting out, plus it was chilly.

I sat outside and read in the sunshine on Friday. It was lovely. My spider is back, however!

Information, data, knowledge

AI research is problematic! I mentioned this to Joe. This was an interesting study that compared various platform AI results. I feel badly for teachers. We work so hard for kids to critically reflect on things they read.

Measles in Canada over the years after vaccines:

Our snow is nearly gone, but the rain will do it in. The sun warms the tree and the deer have been happy in the sun.
With all the firings at NOAA, fired employees are telling their stories. One, a meteorologist for 10 years, warns that there will be hell to pay. We know that investing in information people rely on for safety and prevention of deaths will be a dark price to pay. All these skills and techniques, institutional knowledge, will be lost.

NOAA

This is a lightning map. It is shocking, the number of lightning strikes. Over 5000 in one grid.

Dozens have been killed (our CBC had a good article) in the tornados. It is gruesome.

They don't know what they don't know, these people. The oligarchs want to make money, but this is costing regular folks dearly. That is their bottom line.
"The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast." - Oscar Wilde
Joe fed 16 deer on Friday and Saturday mornings.
