Metcalfe Fair Horses!

Metcalfe fair

Hubby loves his heavy horses! We went to Metcalfe to see them. They were showing the large geldings, taking them through their paces as they were being judged. Apparently, there would have been more, but there is a big heavy horse competition in Boston next weekend, and many were resting their horses for that one.



We didn't wait around, but the wagons were running in the afternoon.


He was tying up the horse's tail.


The one on the right wanted the hay the one on the left had in his stall. There was some scolding involved. "My hay!"

Richmond Fair Heavy Horses

I wanted to show some of the photos of the horses at the Richmond Fair. Hubby grew up with heavy horses, and he schedules trips to local fairs to see them. The fair is on from Thursday to Sunday, the third week in September. The fair has been going since 1844! I'll have more photos of the fair itself, as well as the parade, later.

We sat and watched them run these beasts. Across the paddock I could see some of the other breeds, but these were our focus! They have to run quickly to show them properly, you can see them running like Road Runner!

The Belgians go very fast. One horse was reluctant to slow down. I could hear her handler, after the judge asked them to do a different gait, "She only has one speed!"




My faves were the infant, parents showing her the horse. The mare looked at me first, then, as if to say "Take photos of me. I'm a good, gentle girl!" They are wonderful beasts. Hubby would play unde their hooves in the barn.


Such friendly people. This young lady was from Quebec.



The pairs and wagons were Clydesdales shown singly, as well as in a pair. One horse kept snuggling with its fellow horse, and I snapped a great photo, then captured a video of them.
