Bon Echo Park Wanderer Too'r: photo set 2

As if it had been sliced open.
The rocks are 300' high.
The canoe in the distance!
The rocks are amazing.

I wanted to know a bit more about them. The Visitor's Centre was the place.
They have great displays to explain the complex shifting of the rock, the sheer cliffs. I wished my daughter was with us. She is a hydrogeologist, with her M.Sc., and I learn a lot while she explains things to us civilians. I eavesdrop at the beach, where she explains the formation of sand to her daughters. How much we learn from our children!

Here are large-res photos of the information, if you are interested. I always read them and promptly forget the information.
Digital photography has been a boon to knowledge!

Bon Echo began with the establishment of the Bon Echo Inn, and the plaque explains it. Enamoured with Walt Whitman, you can see how they had a message carved in the rock in my third set of photos. A little kooky, to my mind, but who am I to throw stones?

The size is incomprehensible, unless you've been to Lake Superior Park. They have amazing rock, too! Gargantua Bay isn't a trip for chumps, though. With both open holes, nay, pits in the road, and rocky bumps.

The canoe gives you an idea
of the height of the rock (300')
The rock is amazing.

Our NHE was confident and well-able to handle us. I've heard the good ones are hard to find!

Bon Echo Park's Wanderer Too'r: the boat trip

After thunder and lightning in the morning, we made it on to the 3 p.m. trip. The rock is amazing. The pictographs are somewhat faded over the 300 - 1000 years of wear and tear.

We began by crossing the lake and creating an echo.

A fun, guided trip in Bon Echo park. We yelled and created an echo. Of course. The pictographs are sadly faded after 500-ish years, but it was an interesting trip learning about those who developed the area.

Bon Echo Park's Wanderer Too'r: The Drive

This was our plan, to go on the boat tour. We turned up two weeks ago, and found that they have cut back their days, due to staffing issues. Sigh.
The scenery is wonderful. Many home owners take much pride in their landscaping. Some just have a sense of humour.

The drive can be quite eventful, mostly drivers doing stupid things. <

We planned to go on this day, and when we arrived found that the 11:30 trip was cancelled. No worries. The lightning was a bit of a turn off anyway. We drove to Tweed, where we ate lunch in our favourite spot there. We returned to the park, found that the 1 p.m. was cancelled, and missed the 2 p.m. trip.

What a storm!
