Crumbly Acres and Crumble

I am hoping our days are warming. It's been too cool to sit out back for long. The odd time the sun comes out, I move the plants around. It keeps me off the street! 

Look to the skies. We like to watch the Canadian show, Mayday, which depicts the efforts of our Transportation Safety Board (TSB) to determine causes of incidents and prevent them in the future. You can check out the information on Wiki, as well. There you can access links to the official TSB reports. 

Yes, it's been cold and rainy lately. Indoor play. There is only so much housework one can do. 😏There have been several incidents at our local small airport. May 17th, June, 2024, and Nov. 2024: 🛩 'Controlled flight into terrain'. Much research, amazing scientists who research the problems and correct them.

As I look skyward, I wonder what they are up to. It's the small airplanes that cause some concern. I figure if I film them there will at least be a record if something happens! These two were only up at 1100' (335 m) and 1675' (510m).  

Joe Brian went down to Miller's Bay Farm and fetched us freshly picked rhubarb and asparagus. I made a rhubarb/canned pineapple/frozen strawberry crumble. The strawberries won't be ready here until June.

It's the nights that have worried me. I bring my hanging planters in overnight. We had one evening when I did not, and Butch Raccoon knocked it over! I could hear something happening out there! Lesson learned. (MAYBE!)

Butch has been curious. They knocked the pond pump over. Froggy wasn't amused. 

Joe Brian had bought me a sturdy fish net for the goldfish pond. I picked it up and spotted an ant on my hand. And another ant, and another one. The handle comes apart, and tapping it on the rock I found hundreds of ants and eggs. No chore is simple! Some of our critters are more welcome than others. 😉

We've teeny flowers, as well as the larger ones, to please the eye. Lily of the Valley everywhere!

What my mother always called forget-me-don'ts! Caitlin gifted me some from her lawn. I've tried seeds and nothing seemed to take. SUCCESS!

🦫I have a report on Barry Beaver. He took down trees, one was blocking the path, about 5 are widow makers, but three have (thankfully) fallen. 

 He worked on it two nights and made progress. Aspens and Willows are their preference. We have Aspen!

It's 6:30 a.m., and garbage is out, the plants are out in the rain. I've several new chores with Spring. The good news is I've shed 1 kg. with my Spring Chores. More to come! I wish I were as efficient as Barry.

Word is they found the  pilot and the plane 1.5 hours later at 10:26 p.m.

I spotted this plane as I took a break from gardening. They are frequent flyers!

Morning flight

9 p.m. our time, CBC and the police have reported on it. The pilot was injured, just minor injuries.

Took off at 10:12 a.m. UTC
landed UTC 10:52 a.m.

Up in the skies! There was a crash at the same airport in 2024. A crash during flight training.

May 17th's plane was up today.

Most of my US-based blog friends have voted. We will watch the news with baited breath from this side of the border.   🤞 It's been a wild ride. It will have an impact on Canada, and Canadians. One candidate doesn't understand how tariffs work. We spent 4 years confronting this. He doesn't understand the supply chain, the cars, for example, are built in both our countries, with different plants creating different parts of the while. He doesn't understand that businesses put the cost of tariffs onto the consumer. It's that simple.

Deep breath, people. We shall see what unfolds.

I was awake at 4:30 yesterday. Today I slept in until 5:30, I was so happy! 

I like watching and tracking flights, as my faithful readers know! I spotted this plane, C-GSGV, and tracked it. Well, you may laugh, but I was proud of myself. Between a secondary cataract in my left eye, and floaters in both eyes, I thought I did well. 😏 

Once I was back indoors, and looking at the radar, there was this one, Nov. 3rd: N331RF:

This one was a bit strange, as well! KASI AVIATION SERVICES, from Quebec.

Now, to my title piece, the OPP released this information:

A pilot from Elizabethtown-Kitley was able to walk away with just minor injuries after his small plane crashed near the Smiths Falls Airport. Officers with the Lanark County OPP responded to the Russ Beach Airport, just east of Smiths Falls, shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024. A pilot had been conducting a training flight, simulating repeated take off and landing maneuvers, when the Cessna 172 lost power and crashed about half a kilometre from the runway. The pilot, who had been alone in the plane, was able to walk to the Smiths Falls Flying Club’s facility. The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) was notified of the crash.

I had to look it up. Of course! 😎 

 I tracked the flight: C-GPTW. You can see where the track ends 500m from the airport. The pilot must have had a time getting back to the airport through the bush. This is a plane I often see around. It belongs to the Smiths Falls Flying Club. 

The Canadian government TSB investigates incidents. 

☔It's been cold, and rainy. Snow tires are on. We're ready. Today, however, we begin with a warm front from the US. Last week it was a cold front from the north! 

The lightning, and tornadoes are epic. I feel so badly for people affected by the weather on this continent, and across the pond.
