Trip to Merrickville Part 1

We had a mission. Joseph Brian had lunch out with his friend in town. The salad dressing was magnificent. He asked where they got it and the answer was in Merrickville. We phoned our favourite restaurant in Merrickville and they were open for lunch. Off we went.

🏠New Apartment Build

First, an update on the new apartments in Perth. Insulation! This is progress.

I had a library book to drop off and two to pick up. I liked this vanity plate!

There are only three seasons in Ontario: bugs, snow, and construction! They were replacing the posts. I was glad to see the flaggers. People are driving too fast.

We arrived and parked. The store fronts are looking like spring. Fake flowers, which is prudent in the weather. We headed to the Baldachin Inn and sat at the corner window.

I had a great view of the street corner. It is a busy place!

It is an amazing old building. It was two room, and the took down the wall between.

This part of the restaurant used to be a bank. There is a bullet hole in one window frame! It has heritage status.

Here is the store where we were headed. The whole purpose of the trip was to buy some salad dressing here. Does it look closed? It was! We ended up shopping.

We had a staycation, in the bridal suite!

Good old hubby! My back has been sore. Caitlin and I had a facial and pedicure last week. This week, hubby decided to pamper me some more, and did an extensive bit of research to find a place with a bathtub whirlpool in the room. There aren't that many about!

We ended up buying a package: dinner, overnight in the bridal suite with the whirlpool tub! It was delightful. We were in the Baldachin Inn. An old, old building. It is amazing. There is a beautiful dining room, which we have visited often, and house-made meals. My faithful readers know how important this is to hubby (no dairy, yeast, eggs). The meal included appetizer, salad, dinner, dessert. The meal I couldn't finish (it was brunch the next day) and the dessert I similarly took home.
Friday, a grumpy Daisy. She missed us.
My leftovers were yummy.

There were a few off-season problems: neither the TV nor the Wifi were working. The owners are in the middle of converting from cable to highdef TV, as well as a new wifi.
I finished my novel and hubby went out and bought me a couple of books to keep me going.
I forgot my toothbrush.
The stores in Merrickville are open 11:00 to 4:00 most days. However, many of the stores are only open Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Who knew? We did have a discount on off-peak days, as part of the package.
The beds are very high up, and we had to hop to get up on them! It was fun!

It is the most beautiful room, taking you back to the early days of Merrickville. The decor is amazing, high ceilings, huge mirrors in the renovated bathroom. The old wooden floors harken back to the day.

Lunch at the Baldachin!

Yes, I be spoiled rotten! We went for a Friday drive.
Lunch at the Baldachin Dining Lounge. I love this spot in Merrickville; Made from scratch food, Lovely ambience, beautiful table settings, as well as daily specials. Every time we have to explain 'no yeast, eggs, dairy, which really challenges us, as well as our chefs! Hubby's chili was fine, sans a top dressing of cheese (which is a normal garnish!). Then, I was rooting for a dessert for him, while I had glass of wine #2. Our lovely server said she'd see! The chef, bless his heart, made a sort of poached apple, with cherries, and some nacho-y chips! It was a delightful day!
