There was a terrible incident August 12 near Ottawa. The helicopter turned around. Not a good sign.


1 ATV death this year in Lanark County, as well as a horrid incident that put into the hospital (For the Love of Lodi).

32 fatal collisions during the first half of this year




We had a lock down mid-March due to COVID–19, and traffic incidents slowed things down. 
During the last week in April there was a lot more traffic. The local OPP sends out almost weekly reports. We're missing the first three weeks in September and October, plus December.
Oct. a bear was hit. I think it was my Booboo.


 

2020 Collisions in Ontario

Traffic was down quite a bit, due to lockdowns.

  •  20,000 few collisions than 2019
  • 26% fewer collisions than in 2019, but a 22% higher fatality rate
  • significant number attributed to careless and dangerous driving incidents
  • speed was the cause for 62 deaths
  • alcohol/drug use: 51 deaths
  • driver inattention: 45 deaths
  • lack of seatbelt use: 55 deaths
  • transport trucks/commercial vehicles involved in 6,145 of 2020 collisions

Marine fatalities 

  • They were the highest in 12 years. 
  • Almost double the 2019 incidents.
  • Boating incidents resulted in 32 deaths:
  • capsized vessels (17); falling overboard (12); paddlers were 50% of deaths; 29 of those dead were not wearing a life jacket

Motorcycles

  • increase in deaths from 2019 (27) to 2020 (42 deaths)
  • failing to yield, excessive speed were causes
  • in 37 incidents there were no other vehicles involved

Off-road Vehicles 

  •  Highest in 14 years
  • no helmet: 8 deaths, 4 didn't have chin straps fastened
  • Alcohol/drugs a factor in 1/3 deaths

Snow Machines

  • 2019/20 season 13 snowmoblies deaths
  • 2020/21 season = 15 deaths
  • speed a factor in 50% of deaths
  • falling through the ice into open water: 3 deaths



A recent development:
Jan. 6th –  The other driver charged with "failing to share the roadway while meeting oncoming traffic."

The two-vehicle collision happened Nov. 10, just before 2 p.m., on Highway 7 between Drummond Concession 9A and Pauls Road in Drummond-North Elmsley Township.










Nov. 3 in Ottawa: first snow




The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a single vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on County Road 43 that occurred at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, Oct.19. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries.





This is an awful situation. 
In Morton, 45 km south of us, a woman has died after a collision with a truck. Another vehicle ended up in a ditch. 





Victim identified in fatal Lanark Highlands collision

On Sept. 28, just after 3 p.m., officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a serious, single vehicle collision on Galbraith Road, north of Wolf Grove Road, in Lanark Highlands Township. 

The driver, Nicholas Wark-Moulton, age 24, of Lanark Highlands Township, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 22-year-old passenger, also from Lanark Highlands Township, was transported to hospital in critical condition.

The news didn't look good. A scary report: power outage the previous night, due to a traffic incident. Lots without power!

Drunk Driving | The driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal rollover south of Perth yesterday was charged with impaired driving. Crosby, ON. The single-vehicle rollover happened around 5:30 p.m. on Narrow Locks Road near Mark's Lane, north of Crosby, Ont.

Police have identified David Werry, 63, as the man who died in a single-vehicle roll over on Narrows Lock Road Tuesday, Aug. 27.
On August 27, 2019 at about 5:25 p.m. OPP officers from the Rideau Lakes office responded to a single vehicle rollover on Narrows Lock Road near Marks Lane, North Crosby Township. Investigation revealed there were three male occupants in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Werry was a passenger who was transported to hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead. The other passenger, 23 years old was treated for minor injuries.

Perth has spent thousands on crosswalks. Still, people do not press the buttons. They are difficult to spot, walking out from behind a car.

Motor Vehicle Collisions reported by OPP in Lanark County 2018



May 14 it was a coyote collision, usually it is just deer. 
May 21 it was a cow.
June 4th report was for two weeks, I divided it in half. (June 4th: 72, 16, 15, 10)
June 11th – a bear and a turkey vulture as well as 8 deer.
July 2nd's report included 8 deer, a cow and a turkey vulture. (Reports for Jun 18 & 25 ?)

Driver sustains major injuries in Highway 7 collision June 13 – major injuries following Wednesday morning's serious collision on Highway 7, and has been taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Ottawa.
