  • 1957 speeding charges, 
  • 33 stunt/racing charges for driving more than 50 km over the posted speed limit, 
  • 121 seatbelt charges 
  • and 51 distracted driving charges were laid.
  • Even though efforts continue to remind the driving public of the perils of Impaired Driving 20 people were charged with Impaired Driving this past Long weekend (July 1st).

OPP officer injured after being dragged along Highway 400 during traffic stop


In 2017, the Ontario Provincial Police laid close to 213,000 speeding charges and more than 4,800 street racing charges against Ontario drivers, according to a June 28 media release from the OPP. Street racing is defined as 50 km or more above the posted speed limit.



Death toll from speed-related incidents reach five-year high

During the same year, 75 people were killed from speed-related collisions on OPP-patrolled roads — a five-year high.


Police laid nearly 700 charges against truckers after day-long Ontario safety blitz

June 20 – There have been 3,047 truck-related collisions reported in 2018, including 25 that were fatal. 

OPP laid 697 charges against commercial drivers and took 63 transport trucks out of service during Operation Corridor, a 24-hour safety blitz conducted from June 13 to 14.
In partnership with the Ministry of Transportation, police stopped 1,692  trucks.

Incidents in 2018

Driver sustains major injuries in Highway 7 collision June 13 – major injuries following Wednesday morning's serious collision on Highway 7, and has been taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Ottawa.












​The Jan. 27 crash on the QEW east of Cawthra Road claimed the life of Nicole Turcotte and left a 19-year-old woman in critical condition. Five others were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Tuesday's crash on Highway 7 happened just a few kilometres from where another man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in late December.
