The Perth Fair

The Perth Fair always runs on the Labour Day weekend. We visited on Friday, the first day of the three-day fair. It opened at noon, and timed it that way. The crowds built up as we ambled around.

You can see that the lights were on, because it was cloudy.

This little hat was so cute. There is a mechanism in the long ears of the little boy's hat. Daddy was showing how his new nat worked. If you squeeze it at the bottom of the yellow ears, the horns pop up and down.
Typical 4-H events, showing their calves.

The carver:

Jayden was an 18-year-old from our township, who died Dec. 7th in a car incident near Perth.

Lots of happy kids, parents and grandparents filming the action!

We both got tattoos.

I had my heart set on a Blooming Onion. It was a mistake.

On the way home, a gathering of birds, in a flock, ready for migration.

The trees are changing colours.

Saturday morning it dumped rain. I am glad we popped into the fair Friday.

Saturday morning 27 mm, about an inch

Perth Fair – 2022!

It is always on Labour Day Weekend: Sept. 3/4/5. Fall fairs signal the end of the school year. When I taught in rural schools, the kids would have been busy preparing for the fall fairs.

We drove from the Sundance Artisan Show to the Perth Fair. We haven't been in a few years, we were out and about, so why not!

It was a hot day, nearly 30 C. at home. We thought it might rain the next few days. We put two trips into one day. What a marathon! This morning it was 11 C. when I got up. What a change!

People will put anything on a t-shirt.

Lots of carvers out there.

Forging along...

Sheep shearing

Flags and paraphernalia, colours and games galore.

I saw someone trying to eat theirs, photo, top right. It's a hamburger with a ball of mac 'n cheese in it, onion rings on top. It was difficult to eat, the cheese ball rolling out. We passed on it.

A dance troupe

Super tall sunflowers and pumpkins. Lovingly nurtured over the summer.

This cutie is from Muskoka! She developed The Saucy Muskokan. Her extended family lives in Perth, and what a lovely way to visit.

Somebody bought a sausage, they put it in a wrap he'd brought with him. I was given first bite and it was pretty good.

Later, the smell got to me and I had my own sausage on a bun. Also fries, which I shared! We did a fair amount of walking. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

The rides were amazing!!! Not that we tried them. There was lots of screaming as it was, with wasps trying to eat kid's cotton candy and lunch.

The Avalanche was a fun ride!

This one gave me shock and awe!

But this one gave me pause.

I like September!

Here we are, September. The plants have nearly run their spring/summer cycles. I'm putting together another Fall Chores post. The year unfolds as it should. We've still a few cherry tomatoes. Soon, with first frost, my outdoor plants will die off, their year done.

The Perth Fair is on this weekend. There is a display contest, top prize $175, 2nd = $100 and 3rd place = $75! I figured that out after being out driving and seeing these!

After their morning run, in the cats come for breakfast. The horse chestnut tree, in the background, is beginning to lose leaves. It was chilly yesterday.

I knew the morning was going to be sunny, so I did laundry early and hung it out. Sitting on the back deck to process some photos on my laptop, it began to rain. Happily the clothes were nearly dry. I hustled and brought it all in.

August 2022 <= rain totals! They were decent.

On Wednesday, the day progressed. I did some much-needed weeding. The clouds rolled in, and then a big storm. Well, not so big, but spotty. Very isolated. The tree frog in the bathroom sensed the impending storm and began to chirp. I still cannot find it.
Thunderboomers everywhere around us, as well as power outages.

Ontario Hydro posts outages, hopefully you can access it with a cell phone if your home is without power. People were back up by the next morning.

The rain stopped, but there were warnings for the kids in Ottawa. They were out picking up a grocery order. Happily they made it home safely.

Ottawa Hydro also shows a map of outages, Caitlin texted that theirs was out. They had power back by 9:30 p.m.!
Whew!

Goodnight sun!
