What a lovely day!

What a beautiful day it was Saturday. I sat on the front porch, again, and read in the afternoon sunshine. It was so cozy, and warm. A little microclimate.

I actually planned a meal. Normally, JB approaches me, with my coffee in hand, and asks what he should bring up from the freezer for dinner. I wanted something that would cook for awhile, I like the smell, and the heat in the house. He didn't want a whole chicken or turkey. I scoured some recipes and came up with chicken thighs.

This is an aide memoire! I'll never remember what I put into it.

First, brown rice on the bottom. Then everything else on top of it.
Curry, green and orange pepper, a cup of rice and broth, drained can of mushrooms, can of diced tomatoes, onion, two oranges, chicken thighs. I baked it 60 min, at 375 ˚ F.

Deer aleaping!

We had 20+, rather a large number!  Once spring arrives, we seldom see them in summer. Meantime, they wander around and eat the lilac buds, as well.

The deer were busy feeding on the maple tree.

Sunday

We had 5 or 6 cm snow, followed up by 1 mm rain.

The cardinals were quite amorous, he fed her briefly. A sure sign of spring. This is the first time we've seen the female. He's been calling for her from high atop the trees across the highway. We have about a half dozen mourning doves, as well. The buds on the chestnut tree are about to burst.

Well, you certainly had a lot of visitors on that fine sunny day. It must feel SO good to be able to sit outside.

Wowzers, I can't believe how many deer you have! The most we've ever had was about six.

You do have signs of spring, we have leaves turning yellow in some places , and darker mornings. Time to get that load of firewood. The tiny wee woodshed will fill so quickly.

Hi Jenn, love your warm and cosy spot on the verandah... always nice to have a little bit of time to yourself isn't it.
That's such an easy and I'm sure, tasty, recipe, thanks for mentioning it.
Love the videos too - those deer are beautiful.
Hoping the rest of your week is great! Sue xx

I enjoy watching the deer and turkeys in action in your videos. You are blessed with so many visitors that you can enjoy watching from your house.

Jenn - your bare toes in the "microclimate" are as sure a sign of spring as any!
