Isabelle's Elf

It all began with this little elf cedar plant in December. I was supposed to water it until freeze-up, which I did. It turned brown, so I brought it indoors and took off its hat.

The girls were here, and Isabelle made a snowman snowperson. I added the hat and mitts from the elf. Isabelle added cedar cone buttons.

I added the wine bottle, Jos the bucket, Feb. 25.

Feb. 27 – We are having ice pellets, no, light snow, no, heavy snow at 10:30 a.m. It was -5 this am., by 10:00 p.m. it was -1 C.
Feb. 28th we had rain in the afternoon. It's wasn't so bad, though, as we sat on the front deck in the sunshine. It was 10 C. by the time the rain began.
Mar. 1 – poor elf. She's lost her head.
March 1st she lost one arm.

In the morning there was ice on the sidewalk. It melted during the day. No video, but I'm sure you can imagine the cats as they got their paws wet, and shook them off from the water.

That was a swing in temperatures. By the afternoon, we were up to 5 C., after the sun came out and before sunset the back thermometer read 10 C. Today, we've a snow squall watch!

What a change in temperatures.

February precipitation, 2018

2018 mm snow cm
JAN 55.4 39
FEB. 47.8 35
We've had much more rain than last year. It's been very warm for February, as well. I find it disconcerting.

FEB2017.13.750.8

Feb. 28 – last night it was 10 C. at bedtime!

We're amping up into spring, for some reason. The weather has been far too mild for February. There is an ebb and flow to normal seasons. I should be snowshoeing on the wetland, with the critters, well, flora and fauna, asleep safe in the bosom of the snow cover. This just isn't right.

Feb. 25 – sleety rainy stuff on top of hail and wind, lots lost power.

This isn't a normal February! I should be able to use my snowshoes on the wetland, and go for some fie walks. Flooding is pretty bad, too.
Lots of rain with flooding

Nearby, Hydro is out!

Feb. 21 – snowcover 6 cm,

 Brantford has ordered an evacuation...

Feb. 20 – up the continent it runs: 18 mm, snowcover 10 cm.

Feb. 19 – 29 cm snowcover

Feb. 15

Feb. 13 – 3.8 mm of water!

Feb. 11 – freezing rain in the forecast. Snow cover of 29 cm.

Feb. 10 –9 cm

Feb. 9 –here's the prediction!

Feb. 7 –Aye Cap'n, she's gonna blow!

Feb. 4 – 21 cm... it's a big one! 23 cm snow cover, with an icy crust.

Feb. 3 – a skiff of snow, more on the way. Snow cover =  5cm mostly ice.

Feb 1. – It started with excitement

It was such a temperature range, getting up to 1 C.

What a crazy month for weather!

Feb. 28th – We're in for rain!

Feb. 24 – more of this awful Spring weather: 5+mm rain.

It IS awful. Thunder and lightning, and rain on top of the snow. It's horrid walking in the forest. The water is  just rolling off the snow, into the gullies and ditches.

Feb. 21 – rain is threatened!

Feb. 18th – lovely snow cover

"Ottawa has received nearly 54 cm of snow this week, but get ready for a big melt in the capital."
We haven't had nearly that much, but we have enough! Yesterday it was -15 C. when we left the house. Today -5, and now, at noon, it is 5+!
Ottawa gets the Lake Effect Snow, moisture picked up from non-frozen lake surfaces.

Feb. 13th – 14cm, not as much as some people!

Feb. 12 – We did the driveway several times!

The roads were terrible! TrackMyPlow showed many trucks out there working.

Feb. 11 –a wee dump of snow & a warning

Feb. 9 – Temperature ups and downs

This morning our thermometer says -17 C. It fooled Daisy who went bounding out before she tested the waters, so-to-speak. I'm looking forward to Mr. Sun.

NASA Satellite is amazing!

Feb. 7th - Freezing rain warnings: total was 13.7mm.

I collected the ice pellets, just for fun, and melted them down.

It has hit Kingston around 2:00 p.m. Freezing rain hit Brockville at 3:00 p.m., Toronto has about 5 mm. Out west, B.C. has a dump of snow (60 cm: who has snow tires, there?!). New Orleans is a mess, with tornadoes.

Yikes...

Feb. 5th

It's been a glorious start to the month. Cold enough to walk on the wetland. Wetland walkies: World Wetlands Day. A skiff of snow, here and there. The wetland water levels have gone done. When you take a step, you fall a bit.

Feb. 1st – Not bad. Jan. 31st it was -17 C. in the morning!
