The gun range, cancer treatment, walkies

Another early morning. I managed to sleep until 4 a.m., but I am happy with that. It could be worse!

Gun Range Proposal

Here is an update to our big meeting on the 11th. We've got emails, phone calls, and so much to work on, sift through, digest, and read. We have moral agency inasmuch as few residents want this gun range in the community, and the by-laws and township planning precludes it with current zoning.

When the OPP ran the training we worked around it. It wasn't pleasant, but we felt better knowing who was there, and we had some confidence that they were all in uniform. They were on the job as part of their training.

We made the local paper! They quoted me, and they quoted hubby. We were quite pleased with the coverage. If you ever want press go to your local small paper and keep contact with editors. They want to cover local issues that have a direct impact on daily life.

Several people spoke, in a packed room. One man raises horses. Others have B & Bs, rent cottages, and are farming. In the photo, Amy Millar, yes, a Canadian Olympian, explained the impact of the noise on staff, students, her foals, her teaching practice.

"A War Going On!

I had an interview with the reporter regarding the proposed gun club. I explained our position and said that if she had any questions... She did. She wanted to know who spoke so eloquently at the meeting,  Joe somebody, who sat beside me. I said I could help her! (That's my hubby!)

JB totally negated the proponent's premise that we know nothing of guns. In fact, many of the people there have guns, as they are recreational hunters, or farmers who use them.

😷Thursday, after the Tuesday meeting, DNE posted information that someone at the meeting has tested positive for COVID. I thanked them for letting us know.

Managing Prostate Cancer, PART XC – JB has a cancer treatment next month. (Yes, it is event #90!) He was supposed to have Bone Density Scan #7 prior to this appointment. (Bone Density Scan #5 was an adventure in Ottawa: freezing rain and power outages.) His urologist's office called Wednesday to ask if we had the scan booked. Our local hospital has not contacted us. I know our ERs have been closing with staffing issues. Our rural hospitals are the same as the city hospitals. Our Perth & Smiths Falls hospitals have had to close with staffing issues. Ottawa Valley news reported it:

There are also “big city issues” such as longer wait times for diagnostic testing and surgical cancellations due to the lack of beds.”

🌲 I went for a relaxing walk with Cinnamon. Forest bathing is healing, being out in nature is grand.

The maple trees are amazing! It's a carpet of beauty.

Down the hill we went, he likes to lead so he hustled. He'll roar past me and fling himself up a tree for fun.

The Five Sisters tree clump is so pretty. You can see the yellow canopy, with the green wetland in the background.

He loves walking along the fallen logs. Even if they are covered in moss.

The green mosses on the cedars are so pretty.

The frog pond is still green with non-invasive phragmites. Soon it'll all be asleep, protecting the critters in the mud.

Cinnamon had several dust baths, rolling around waiting for a belly rub.

He waited on the driveway for me, and another belly rub, after which I picked him up and hustled him into the house. Walkies were done.

Hi Jenn! I wish you and JB the best for his treatments, I can't imagine what he goes through, my heart goes out to the both of you! Cinnamon is very sweet, I love that you walk together. It's lovely in your woods! ☺

Cinnamon seems to be quite the walking companion; maybe some of his antics were to amuse you as he probably picked up on some of your stress. The woods are certainly beautiful. Sending lots of positive vibes for the gun club not taking up residence & for JB's next round of tests & treatments. Health care right now is, IMO, scary for us little folks while the politicians & medical system play with our health & lives.

Your woods look good.

It’s like every workplace has staffing issues. Our garbage wasn’t picked up until 7:30pm again this week, and a note from the town said they didn’t even finish the route , which would be concluded on the next day.

THat walk was a wonderful (and wonder full) counterpoint to shooting range and cancer treatment.

Healing thoughts for JB. What an ordeal especially the way medicine is now.

Good luck on getting the gun club to choose a more appropriate location. I think it would ruin the area.

Great walk with your cat. Fall color is in full swing. I love a cat that walks.

I feel your stress. My forest kept me sane while we had our conflict with a company wanting to change our land.

Great that you had a good walk, and shared photos with us! Cinnamon is the name of my ex-daughter-in-law...and as a woman she acts somewhat like your cat...not in a bad way...kind of joyous and free...but wanting your attention too. Anyway, hope the attention for those against the gun club can win out. And many vibes of hope for treating the cancer. And Begone, foul thing!

It is good that you got so much coverage for your event about the guns.
Love your walk in the forest.

I really hope that JB gets the tests and the treatment he needs.
Love the coverage to the gun club meeting. And would love to bathe in those forests.

A golden carpet among the trees, hope for some good outcome from your meeting, and YES, go local for everything you can.

You live in such a beautiful place for "walkies" with Cinnamon, don't want that destroyed. Praying for JB to get his needs met.

Good for the both of you speaking out about the gun range. My fingers and toes are all crossed for your hubby. Thank you for taking us along on your forest bathing.

So patronizing to assume if you're against the gun range you must be ignorant about guns.

I hadn't realized a bone density scan would be part of that care. It's a shame there are so many hospital closures. In rural Tennessee that's a result of our state refusing to expand medicaid. We can call that an example of cutting of our nose to spite our face :(

Your fall color is pretty to see :)
