heron rookery

I am always amazed with nature.

How do these birds know where to build nests?

How do we know where to choose a house? This is really close to a house I really like! But is it the one????

The ways of nature always amaze me. Why do the herons nest there, why is there a grove aspens here and not there? I'm sure there is a reason. I hope you find your house.

Yes we have very large nests like this on the Mississippi river between St. Louis, MO and Alton, IL, USA. The bald eagles nest there and return every year. They have watching stations along the river which is fun. Nice Post.

There are lots of amazing ways that birds use trees. I went to a workshop this week and last about that very subject. Check out what I learned at www.muskokastewardship.blogspot.com

What amazes me is that such a large awkward bird can build such an unwieldy nest and be at all successful. These nests withstand tremendous winds. They know something I don't know. Interesting post.

And I always wonder why some herons end up in Muskoka and some in Eugene Oregon or in Florida... ;>)....

One of our favorite walks when we did live in Oregon was to view a heron rookery and I too was always amazed at those gawky big birds in those thin branches.
