NaPoWriMo Prompt #8

 napowrimo #8: unusual love connections

too much about love for me
keep it real
love in poems, music,
Valentine's Day
pooh
bah humbug
find love in the chickadee
she hops on the feeder

the squirrel that steals flapping birch tree bark
rushing home to build a nest
that is love

love the granddaughter
love the images
love the present moment
that is all there is
hold each moment fast
for soon they are gone
no regrets

NaPoWriMo Prompt #7 Tanka

fireflies beckon
sparklers in the darkest night
twinkling as beacons
lovers lust in the moonlight
shimmering flitting glow worm

Tanka

Robert Lee Brewer says,
"If a haiku is usually (mistakenly) thought of as a 3-line, 5-7-5 syllable poem, then the tanka would be a 5-line, 5-7-5-7-7 syllable poem."

NaPoWriMo Prompt #6

delightful little face
lips pursed in purpose
can a mother be
even more in love?

when a daughter has a daughter
the love increases exponentially
wrapping my arms around her
in sheer explosion of sensation
the warmth of her hugs
the baby smell I missed
the familiar sounds of toddler laughter
the strident cry for 'gamma'
as is her right
for grandma has a role
as yet undiscovered
a soft place to land
someone who has her back
unconditionally
to follow more than lead
to listen not advise
to care so much a woman's heart bursts
this legacy completes
cycle of love
cycle of life

NaPoWriMo Prompt #5

napowrimo prompt #5: make your poetry personal

it's personal, all right
the treasure box
filled with memories
yours, not mine
I cannot recall them from our talks
your voice silent
your stories fast faded
I miss your voice
your perfect hand

why did I not demand?
tell the stories again
before it was too late
unnamed faces in faded photographs
I will never know who they are
were they long lost lovers
or family I did not know

why was I not told
the end was not far away
you fought your cancer
while you fought me

NaPoWriMo Prompt #4

napowrimo #4: inside out

 Inside Outside

Precious little girl
First we play inside
Then we play outside
Then we have to come back out
I glory in her energy
Her determination in youth
Her energy restores me
Vibrance I had lost
Young in spirit
I celebrate a rock thrown into the water
Weeding becomes a project
Bonds us in memory forever
While my old, aching body
Remembers working together
Back indoors we go
Snack time
Can you feel it?
Vibrating up to the universe
My soul sings in joy

NaPoWriMo Prompt #3

napowrimo #3: scared yet?

 Fears collide

Indeed
too scared to believe
don't we all feel it?

Too big
too small
too short
too tall

I am afraid I didn't make a difference
took the easy way out
made too many mistakes
will they remember when I'm gone
that I once was here?
once I tried
too much
too much to say
too little held back
afraid I gave up
leaving little to the mind's eye
where do I go now
living in paradise
shutting out the world
do I accept it all
or do I keep trying
sometimes being very trying

NaPoWriMo Prompt #2

napowrimo #2: the ol’ acronym switcheroo

 Right Wing Policy

He took me under his wing
Like Tiger and Sandra's Jesse James
Highway men and robbers
Robbing faith, in the name of fame and fortune
Wings, indeed
That is what he said
policies are made to be broken
I chose to fly away
Ladies
taste the wine
drink your cup dry
and fly
