Merrickville Ruins

We were in Merrickville for a concert, part of the Festival of Small Halls series. Having had dinner by 6 [Merrickville, for your dining pleasure] and the concert doors opened at 7, so we went for a walk. We've often wanted to visit the ruins, but we were there off-season.

They have kept this turbine. It's rather interesting.

It operated in the power station from 1915 to 1993. This is an 'Industrial Heritage Site.'
The Heritage Merrickville Foundation took over, partnering with Ontario Hydro and Parks Canada.

This shows the site as it used to be, with a tannery, the mill, etc.

Hello

Neat view of the ruins. You have some pretty fall colors there. I like the views of the river. Great series of photos from your outing. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!

A super diagram that shows how power comes from water. Stone buildings, I am sure they were cold inside, tiny windows, maybe they wore a lot of clothes and had big fireplaces. So good to see communities get together and preserve history.

I've always been attracted to ruins and their historical/archeological/social significance. Ruin make us reflect on the past in relation to present times and future. It especially shows us that empires do fall.

We haven’t been the Merrickville for a long time, so long that I don’t have a clear memory of the ruins.

I think I just left a comment and it didn’t post. It was unimportant.
