April 22 - 25
It's been crazy weather here. As I type, it is snowing. Yesterday, we had another 8 mm of rain. There are still folks who have been flooded, and evacuated in the province [Flooding in Ontario].The wood duck nesting boxes, last I checked, had THREE hens in THREE boxes. It makes me really happy. I love the differences between the male and females.
Normally, I'd use the snake scope to check them, but since it is so cold I don't want to risk it.
Now that they have eggs (April 23), it seems they are less likely to flush out of the boxes when they hear me walking nearby to get the trailcam SD cards. This is my theory. April 23, I flushed two of them. I peeked in: 5 or 6 eggs.
The video was made five years ago.

These are shots from the trailcam from April 22 - 25. Not too exciting, but fun to see as the wood ducks are really flighty. The mallards hang out longer as I approach the pond.

Hello,
The wood Ducks are one of my favorites. The male is a beauty! The female is pretty too. Great post and photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, thanks also for leaving a comment for me.
I'm not sure if I've ever seen a wood duck.
That's fantastic. I do like the Wood Duck It's so colourful. I hope they all do well.
Male birds have those colourful feathers, the females are pale and gentle.Wonderful to have three boxes all with a family there. Lots to look for in the coming weeks.
You wonder what the ducks think of a snake cam.
Lovely ducks, eggs, and pond! It's a world of sanity. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I love the markings on the mallards, so very pretty. Will be neat when the babies hatch. The weather has been awful, such a lot of flooding.
It's very exciting to keep tabs on a nest box.
