Weather station, snowfall, critters

It was so cold! I have finally figured out the weather station. That little dash in the middle beside the cloud, is the minus sign. It's a bit disconcerting, and it is an odd shape.

The birdies are busy and keen.

The goldfish pond is frozen over, again, with a skiff of snow.

The frog pond...

As I walked back to the house, Cinnamon roared out from Oliver's Lot, over to me. Quite pleased with himself.
Wednesday, more snow.

The 4 cm snow was followed by warmer temperatures. It's a mess. I did the driveway before the rain made a mess even worse. Turns out, we didn't get any rain, just snow! (And another skiff overnight.)

I love the lights!

Nutmeg did a song for Josephine's birthday on Wednesday! It's a song I heard many years ago when I was still teaching. I transcribed it and have kept it in mind all these years.  happy birthday Josee from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.

More froggies in the goldfish pond

I went out to fetch trailcam cards, and Maggie deer followed me.

Everyone is hunkering down. The voles are busy beavers. I feel badly smunching them as I walk!

I figured I best go at the goldfish pond, again. I've put 10 frogs back in the pond, plus 2 more Nov. 21st. One more Dec. 2nd, the bullfrog. That makes 13 frogs. Today I moved 6 of them. That makes 19 frogs in the goldfish pond.

This sad froggie was frozen and dead. They can't take the freeze/thaw in the shallow pond. Normally they hibernate in the frogpond. Its temperature is more stable.

I could see them under the ice, behind the rock, so I broke the ice.

I managed to snag two more.

Down to the pond to break the ice and throw them in.

By the time I went back down, in the afternoon, the ice had refrozen.
Crikey, three more. I had to get down on my knees and reach in behind the rock. They were cold, slimy and grumpy! It's good exercise for me.
One of them jumped out, maybe a small bullfrog, but missed the hole. I had to nudge him in with the bucket.

It is frozen!

Coyote was here!

Our tree is up!
Caitlin figured out how to make the weather station spit out Celsius. It's just not accurate, at 4 C. this morning. It says that today's temperatures, high and low, are -1 C. and -7 C.  It was actually -4 at the time.
This morning it is actually -7 but it displays 7 C. I am at my wit's end with this thing.

I hope you can stay safe.

Here is the coyote in the mucky weather. At 24 seconds in, you can see a little mouse on the right of the video. Coyotes and wolves eat a lot of rodents. Coyote

COVID with the Grandies – Week 18 Wednesday

 It was a cold morning.

I'm having issues with the weather station. First thing this morning, 20 C.?
I replaced the batteries in the receiver outdoors.

The mattress is holding up. The girls are sleeping on an inflated queen-sized one. They woke up Sunday, and were just about flat on the ground. Momma figured it out, before they went home. I found her some duct tape, which is working. Whew! I think it was a cat or two...

I had my coffee, then, at 7:30 toodled on downstairs. "Wakey wakey time! Daylight in the swamp!" (That's what my dad used to say, back in inner city Toronto!)

Josephine sat up, I asked if she wanted privacy to get dressed. She did. We talked to Isabelle. Jos had breakfast and fed the fish. At 8:00 o'clock I leaned over the railing and reminded Izzy it was 8. I went downstairs, and she said I never woke her at 7:30!

Izzy asked for eggs Monday. We didn't get any until Tuesday afternoon. We had scrambled eggs, fruit and toast.

8:53 Josephine: "Gotta run, you guys. Don't want to miss the bus."

2:38 Isabelle: "I've got a coworkers."

Break time. Voracious readers.

I keep dropping my drug store reading glasses. I've crazy glued them three times.

The cats chose not to be out in the yard. It was cold, about -7 C., according to the other thermometers.

Fungus beside the dead tree!

Grampa and Cinnamon checked out the pumpkins in the forest.

New weather station

The cats gave JB a weather station for Father's Day. It uses Wifi and an App. Isn't this fun?

Now, knowing we are in Canada, when I turned it on, I couldn't find out where to change it to C. and metric measurement. This was discouraging. Not only that, but it won't work with the App unless it is plugged in. One of the problems with this house are the lack of outlets on the upper deck. I moved it under the deck.

The back of the box says to go to lacrosseview.com . It didn't do me much good. It was actually LaCross Technology.com . On the website, I found the download for the App. Once I signed up, I was sent an email. They want more money from us! The machine works without the App, but then I've no idea the outdoor temperature.

The App is free, but they sign you up with a 30–day free trial of the "Enhanced Plan." That plan is not free.

This is what the App shows me on the iPad. Sadly, the hand held device isn't working. It reads 71 F. (21 C.), despite the fact that the App shows it is 32 C. We'll see how this works out!
I'm not thrilled with it, but is is useful.

Well, the 'new' weather reader is working better. My dear daughter let me know that I had the wrong one outside! <SIGH> I even read all the information. The white one hangs outside, the display screen in!
