Lunch in Carleton Place

Field trip and lunch in Carleton Place. We wanted to get out of the house and sit beside some water. Joe wore his Strong and Free t-shirt. He has several like this!

It was nice and quiet on the patio at 1:30.

It is a great location, on the water, beside the dam. No sooner had we sat down, than an Osprey landed in the tree. Can you see it?! I might not have noticed it if I hadn't seen the huge thing fly past and land there!

I forgot my 57x zoom camcorder, but snapped a few photos. There is is in the lower left corner, buzzing over the water looking for fishies.

They have a wing span of 180 cm (71"), and are so impressive floating on the wind.

I have lots of Osprey photos, in case you wonder what they actually look like! This one landed on a tree beside our driveway. We have no fish in our frog pond, although they eat snakes, as well. I think it was a young one, spreading its wings.

You can guess what he did here! I like seeing its feathered legs!

Ah, this is the life!

Across the water, a pub. We've been there, as well. It's a little noisier, and primarily bar food. Joe needs food without dairy, yeast or eggs, as well as oily foods. It can be tricky.

The food arrived. I had a salad for dinner, later. No cooking involved for me on Friday. Joe had the pickerel.

This pair were quite something. While they waited, the older man took out cards. He presented a pair of cards, and asked the youngster to pick one. Sometimes he won, sometimes he lost. There were match sticks involved, as well as money. The young man paid for their lunch. After their lunch I saw the older man put a $50 bill down under the container holding the matches. I realized it was a $100 bill. I have no idea what game they were gambling over. The young man had an Aussie accent. I hope he wasn't getting ripped off!

When we arrived I scanned for Great Blue Herons, one didn't arrive until just before we were leaving. Good thing I have a ton of heron photos!

This was in Bala, 2008 or so.

The Osprey is still flying overhead. Can you spot it?!

Off to the dentist!

Our dentist is in Carleton Place, a 45-minute drive, so off we went for noon, Wednesday, Oct. 13th. The wetland looks lovely. It was to be a wonderful Autumn day!

Perth

The maple trees are always wonderful in Autumn. I liked the car colour, too!

Highway 15

The sumac, what can I say? It is my fave.

I loved the colours. Wouldn't one of these front loaders be great?!

Burning bush, with one of those totally ridiculous signs.

Two drivers, both important people I am sure, passed us on double lines and curves. The sound and the worry is awful.

A bit freaky!

Gardens are still looking great, but with an overnight temperature of 7˚ C., they won't last long.

Carleton Place

Note the driver, wandering over the lines... What, me worry?!

I like this big pot of plants!

After my dental appointment JB suggested we go out to lunch. It was supposed to be a sunny afternoon. Or, at least, partly sunny. It was really cold in the dental office, but warmer on the patio.

What a treat!

This is a lovely patio.

Late lunch is served!

The river was lovely!

I didn't bring the zoom lens, but there was a blue heron in the river, at the bottom of the photo, on the long rock. Maybe you'll have to trust me!

The river sounds wonderful. There is something about moving water.

The Boston Ivy reminds me of our house in Toronto. There was a factory behind us, with huge old Boston Ivy leaves that would change colour in fall!

This is the pub across the river.

We entertained the thought of parking here, but I noticed the sign restricted parking to only 30 minutes! Someone else did not notice it. Whoopsie!

I'm sure there is a good story here!

There is lots of Hallowe'en decor up!

I liked this cloud. Almost a sea serpent!

And, home and safe! What a lovely day, despite being at the dentist!

Belleville for lunch!

Trip to Belleville: Fall Colours!
We went to Belleville to have lunch with Nat. She lives in Timmins, in northern Ontario, and I wanted to meet with her during her visit to Belleville, in southern Ontario. All of my friends live elsewhere, it's fun to meet somewhere in the middle. It was a joy to host Yam from Scotland that year, and Susan from Novar, northern Ontario. Dale visited from Huntsville, as well.

We're in the middle of an election... Our local NDP candidate isn't putting out signs, to save the environment. I'm not sure the efficacy of this. We have a re-usable, generic sign at the end of our driveway for the Greens.

This is a drive-by, but one of my favourites! Poor JB, who prefers driving to taking photos (no pressure), this is the only way he can see where we've been...

We went to The Boathouse Restaurant. We were there smack on the nose of noon, and our timing couldn't have been better. We opted to sit outdoors, as those days are nearly done. Well, 'we' isn't true. *I* made the decision!
These clouds moved off.

The servers were great, not particularly fast, but we weren't in a hurry.

Nat helped out another couple! I love her! She's such a good person.

Seafood and pasta. My fave. JB had a spicy jambalaya. He likes spice. We both took some home for dinner the next night. This is how I've lost 6 kg., although I did eat his garlic toast.

The clouds began moving in.

We paid up, and said our goodbyes just as the heavens poured down. We took a little drive around the harbour first. There are some nice condos.  The houses are about $495,000! This is called Harbour Landing.

Originally the site of an Anishinaabe (Mississaugus) village in the 18th century known as Asukhknosk, the future location of the city was settled by United Empire Loyalists, after which it became known as Meyer's Creek after prominent settler and industrialist John Walden Meyers. It was renamed Belleville in honour of Lady Arabella Gore in 1816, after a visit to the settlement by Sir Francis Gore and his wife.
The long ribbons of clouds were lovely.

A nice park, Jane Forrester Park.

It's a great town, with great services.

Smokin' Joe's!

We drove home along highway #2, through Tyendinaga reserve, Mohawks of the bay of Quinte. It was interesting! Pot shops dotted the highway. It's legal in Canada. Of course, Tyendinaga is a First Nation, with their own government.
