New restaurant in Almonte! Café Postino

I love the old Perth buildings. The area was settled, much like southern Ontario towns and cities such as Port Hope, Perth, Smiths Falls.

We went off to the Almonte Celtic Festival, and sought some sustenance first.

This restaurant is in a refurbished post office building. Wonderful inside, with old door frames

Now, I often visit a restaurant, take photos for fun, and write about them. Small businesses need all the help we can give them.

I never take favours in kind, just enjoy helping them out. We had a delightful lunch; hubby likes his cappuccino, I like my red wine! We searched all over Muskoka for cappuccino, many more can be had in south eastern Ontario!
No photo of lunch, we were hungry, but we had wraps with salad and soup. All delicious.

Cappuccino, cafe and Canada Day

Canada Day in Muskoka is a delight.
And we found a new place that serves cappuccino. Woohoo!

Not only that, but beautifully presented, too!

But the best of all, for a lazy afternoon, is the organic wine from NOTL. Frog Pond Farm, Cabernet-Merlot. It was yummy, and a great way to laud Canada Day! Mind you, the piece of pie Brian ordered came with two forks!!! Maybe that was the best part of the visit.

Cappuccino update

Where can you get a great Muskoka cappuccino?

This is an update from my original post.
The machine in the pizza place 'Dockers'  in Port Carling, beside the Teak store,  has been fixed, at great expense ($200!). It takes weeks to get these folks up from the city! This means there are two sources of cappuccino in Port Carling.

There are 5 of Oliver's machines but many do not work. There are Oliver's outlets in Gravenhurst, Port Carling, Bracebridge and Bala

Port Sandfield marina has a great machine.

Beaners in Rosseau has a beautiful Italian machine that lights up, very sophisticated.

In Huntsville both "The Finds" and "That Little Place By The Lights" on Main Street have great Cappuccino, I have been told.

Parry Sound, while not 'Muskoka' —  it is our neighbour, apparently the Georgian Bay Airways Ltd.  has "Starbucks free coffee today. Lucky thing we now have our machine hooked up at the office. Caramel Macchiato".

Of course the large resorts have cappuccino machines, but they need no support!

BTW
I do this as an ad-free service to fellow coffee afficionados. No Google ads here - ugh. This is a non-profit blog, for fun and pleasure to celebrate Muskoka! Mind you, donations and/or bribes always accepted!

Cappuccino, Bear Cave Road, Rosseau

Another road trip, still can't find any moose. We're going to have to visit Nancy in Bondi. They know how to find moose, wolves, deer, bears. Sheesh!

We drove along Dee Bank Road. What a delightful little river. This is spring, where rivers flow, and the creeks are joyful musicals, dancing over rocks.

What we did find was lunch. In Rosseau. And CAPPUNCCINO Someone ELSE took that last piece of key lime pie, not me!

Our goal: Bear Cave Road, along Nipissing Road, east of Rosseau.

And a heckuva road it was. I could only imagine pioneers in the good old days.

The melted snow (not all of it was melted!) runs in the ditches, and the sandy road is soggy in many parts. We drove to a clearing and found a delightful little church.

What a remote location. I cannot imagine the pioneers who cleared the tough land, the cold November winds.

As ever, I like to visit schools, this one has long gone, but the church remains, with a sweet article about the tough pioneer woman who was the school teacher.

Sadly, along the way we spotted a memorial. I did some research, and found a reference. Another testament to driving at 5 a.m., without a helmet, on a December night.

Muskoka Today December 14 06. PDF

Dec. 10, 2006. Old Nipissing Road, 5 a.m., Darrell Ronald Ainsbury ran into the tree when he failed to navigate a sharp curve while driving a snowmobile. He wasn't wearing a helmet.
Along the road the only wildlife we spotted was a grouse, and she was hard to spot!

A beautiful Muskoka day on a beautiful drive. Buds, birds and bees bursting forth. Marches filled with water, water fowl, and the teaming with unseen life.

My World is Coffee

My World is my family. We just sent the kids back to Ottawa, but for a few days my world consisted of toast and tattoos. Hooray for granddaughters to make one feel young in spirit and old in body at the same time!

But, usually, I start every day with two cups of coffee. (Made by my personal assistant!)

Sometimes it ends up with a cappuccino.

Where can you get a great Muskoka cappuccino?
Lately, only 2 out of 5 of Oliver's machines work. There are Oliver's outlets in Gravenhurst, Port Carling, Bracebridge and Bala.

The machine (below) in the pizza place 'Dockers'  in Port Carling, beside the Teak store, is broken.
It is such a shame. It takes a couple of weeks for repairs and people to repair it come from the city.

Port Sandfield marina has a great machine, too. It depends upon who is working to find someone who can operate it well!!!!

The 'new' one in Beaners in Rosseau (below right) still works! It is a beautiful Italian machine that lights up, very sophisticated.

They serve fabulous soups, breakfast and hot lunches, too. (Haven't been there for dinner!)

Of course, you can visit Taboo, or Red Leaves (photo below!) and get one, but that is a bit pricey.

We went to Taboo for a cup of coffee (him) and glass of wine (me). It set us (him) back $25!

Huntsville
Both "The Finds" and "That Little Place By The Lights" on Main Street have great Cappuccino.
Be sure and let me know if you find more spots, or repaired machine!!!

Coffee.....aaaaahhh

I am married to a coffee aficionado. The dear, sweet man has had coffee all around the world, and he knows his stuff. Here he is at the counter...seeking his solace.

Perhaps a better moniker is connoisseur! (Fr. connaisseur, from Middle-French connoistre, then connaître meaning "to be acquainted with" or "to know somebody/something".)

Part of Brian's job involved travel and he has tried coffee everywhere, as only the sleep deprived or jet lagged can understand. We 'went for a drive', but I didn't realize we were going for a drive for the best cappuccino in North America!

Now, Brian, AKA Joseph (another long story!), is in charge of going to the LCBO and buying my wine (he doesn't drink - but he is great at doing errands) and Bill is always trying to convince him to try a new type of wine. I keep giving him an order: my favourite: Masi, in honour of one of my favourite students, an ESL student who fled the war in Afghanistan. (Is that crazy?) Bill is a connoisseur of wine, Brian is not. Poor Brian.

We were looking to buy a cappuccino machine, but realized that they are a bit too expensive, especially if you want one that works, dependably. The one, left, is worth 5-digits!

Now, Oliver's, in Muskoka, has about 5 stores in the towns nearby, and they have 4 cappuccino machines at any one time. Usually one is broken! In looking for a cappuccino at one store in Port Carling, we didn't find one. The machine was loaned from Bala's Oliver's for the previous time we visited and it had gone back to Bala. Sheesh.
In our research we have found that you get what you pay for. The best machines are Italian, and they are closely guarded by those who own them. We found one in Rosseau. Who knew?

At the lovely little building, right, we found heaven for Brian. Beaners Internet Café.
Our favourite Rosseau restaurant has been Crossroads, but if we are looking for a Sunday afternoon coffee, Beaners is the place.

Now, I didn't know how to even spell cappuccino, but figured it out. I like my coffee hot, and brought to me either in the bathroom, if I have an early morning appointment, or at my computer after cats are fed, goldfish fed, and I have a fire going in the wood stove. I am NOT an aficionado, let alone connoisseur.

Beaners opened in September, and on a quiet March Sunday afternoon it was quite busy. We had some wonderful wraps. Aaaahh, worth the drive!

Delightfully appointed, with a comfortable 2nd floor lounge (below), and they have had regular movie nights. What a concept!

Cappuccino - Wikipedia

Cappuccino is an Italian coffee drink prepared with espresso, hot milk, and steamed-milk foam. The name Cappuccino comes from the Capuchin friars, possibly referring to the colour of their habits or to the aspect of their tonsured (white) heads, surrounded by a ring of brown hair.
