We're down precipitation by 25 - 50%, depending where you are in southern Ontario. I know this is not a new tale for many countries. I try to prepare for it.
The was a fire on the nearby lake, lit by renters setting off fireworks. Finally, our township has a partial, Level 2, fire ban. Not enough, to my mind. One can still make small fires. No higher than 30". Seriously.
I remember being in Muskoka, on the lake, and renters would set off fireworks for 2 weeks every night.
The other problem was bonfires. July, 2010, Bala, there was a fire ban, but I snapped a photo of this bonfire in Bala Bay. The property owner asked me to remove the photo from my blogpost. He knew he'd been stupid.
I had an interesting read the other day: "Short term renters are messing up cottage country"
After reading that, we really believe that if you cannot afford a $6000/month mortgage, maybe it's a risk you shouldn't take. One guy charges $1500 PER NIGHT, for a cottage that sleeps 16. What else will people do but party?
"In Simcoe County, Muskoka, Kawartha Lakes and beyond, town councils, residents and hosts are clashing over how to regulate short-term rentals and how to enforce the rules."
These are guests who don't understand septic systems, do not respect the water, and people who don't respect neighbours.

Short term renters |
Living in a town established in 1816, the roads were created in the horse and buggy era. Trucks have to cross the line.
I got the zoomies: On the lawn tractor!

I've never seen scooters like those. Our smallest vehicles are still legal to drive on roads...sit-upon motor scooters...there's probably a better name I can't think of. They are what people who've lost their licenses to drive will get around on, but can't go more than 45 mph. And they are practically invisible.
Interesting about short-term renters.
Short term rentals, AirBnb, Verbo, and others...I really think they are effecting the housing in our touristy area. It is good for business, terrible for those who work and have to live here.
There have always been an issues with people who rented on the lakes [I spent my summers at my Grandpa's place ... he maintained lake houses for people]...
Grandpa complained that people had no common sense or respect for others or the lake. But he liked their $$.
You cover so many important subjects here. Thank you.
Fires. Uffdah.
There's the rant of the day. Scooters came out before officials knew what they were. Now scooters zip around wherever and whatever speed they like. How many people will be hurt before they get a handle on this one?
ha haha, the sped up moving is hilarious!
Scooters and skateboarders and then people who jog with headphones...:(
We have one of those, but ours is a rather ugly shade of yellow. And I get to zoom on it, to prevent me, I think, from messing up Himself's major mower.
Yes, terrifying, those scooters. And the kids think they are immortal, I guess.
We have super dry here as well. Nothing forecast over the weekend, even. Eep.
We have scooters like that around here. They are designed that you can use them and leave them anywhere. These companies track them via GPS and go around picking them up. It looks like they go pretty fast from your video. Always enjoy your videos but my favorite today was you with the zoomies. Very interesting on short term rentals. I have always been afraid of fireworks and the hazards they create. I feel a kinship with our animals at such times.
Rick was looking at the Ontario fire map last night and there are fires now during parts of his planned route. (He leaves next week). It's a hard call because even if an area is fine now, who is to say, the way these spread, wind, all that, wheat it could be like in another day or week. I told him he needed to get alternate routes planned out. A guy on a bike riding this summer is scary.
