Summer flies by

The water fountain needed work. I always have to clean it halfway through summer. I took it apart. The deerflies were flying. I wore pants.

We've really hard water. There are always deposits that build up on the pump. I cleaned it out.

That looks a lot better!

Our milkweed has the first Monarch caterpillar I've spotted. The first one was July 27.

I found more! I spotted our one Monarch laying more eggs. They eat a hole once they hatch, which is a good sign. The leaves are covered in aphids, the wasps and ants eating the aphid poop. It doesn't seem to matter to the caterpillar, I think.

It's a good supply of milkweed.

The Tiger Lilies are in full bloom.

The Cedar Waxwings zoom about, peeping their pipsqueak sounds, like a little squadron.

Float plane overhead:

Butterflies abound, Black Swallowtail, Monarchs!

Cinnamon was watching for mice friends. Fred was feeding. We haven't only seen Fred for the past few days. I am hopeful but not optimistic.

My veggies are limited this year. I have a couple of cucumbers. Cross your fingers.

We had a nice storm yesterday afternoon. There was smoke from the fires out west. It cleared the air. I took a panoramic photo for fun.

We're on the edge of a storm today.

I remember fondly when that lady brought her Monarch caterpillars to the park and we could watch them ‘hatch’ (wrong word) and fly off. It was a wonderful experience.

It's looking lovely at Crumbly Acres! I do love cedar waxwings and haven't seen one in ages. That's a beauty. Interesting about the caterpillars and good news. Love your milkweed. How lovely, all of it.

I finally saw a Monarch yesterday. There seem to be fewer butterflies around this year.

Congratulations on your growing Monarch family, I've only seen a couple of them this year. But I saw a Black Swallowtail on my parsley, but wasn't able to get a very good picture, your photo is terrific.

So glad you've got the butterflies there. I miss seeing them, not being out in gardens much this year. We also have a rainy day today. And it does make temperatures a bit more manageable. Hope Fred's little one is safe.

Gorgeous summer photos today, the lilies & butterflies! We have hard water, too.

Wow, you made that fountain like new again. My milkweed doesn't look as good as yours, but mine are all in pots.

I haven't seen any of the brighter butterflies but lots of the yellow type.

Sigh… and the brand new tomato plant I put in the garden now has mealworms. I know my daughter in Illinois is looking forward to fall. It’s been way too hot there.
