Josephine's trip to Halifax

Both Josephine and Isabelle were away this month. Isabelle was at a Pathfinder's weekend camp. Even more excitement, Jos and 46 high school peers were in Halifax for a field trip.

I asked permission, and Josee said I could post photos she'd taken. (I live vicariously through extended family!) It is great as these are critters I will likely not see in the 'flesh' any time soon!

They left from the high school parking lot on a Monday at 6 a.m., for the 15-hour trip (12 hours of driving). They were there until Sunday, arriving home at 6 a.m!

 She is taking gr. 11 biology, and that was the requisite for the trip. There they participated in workshops, museum visits and tours at Huntsman Marine. There was whale watching, examining plankton and seaweed, ocean life, a ferry ride to Grand Manan. This is a 'non-profit charity inspiring ocean stewardship.'

I went whale watching a long time ago. There were 7 whales, all side by side, sleeping with one half of their brain, all moving in formation coming up for air for the youngest. It was an amazing experience. Sound up, they were so delighted. I have high hopes for the future with the upcoming generation.

It was exciting to read on CBC that they spotted 4 Right Whales a couple of days after Jos went whale watching!

Josephine took photos with her phone.

Jos took a 'live' quick image, which I put on a loop, and made into an iMovie.

This one was cool, too! Jos said it is a barnacle.

The ferry ride was terrific!

A great time was had by all. You can tell by their voices in the videos.

I am guessing Tropical Storm Philippe had not arrived when Josephine was in Halifax. Update Thursday 5th,...Heavy rain and wind through western N S, then sw, N B, and then PEI.Also Newfoundland. ful opportunities to advance their education, and I agree, Jenn, we see the world through other eyes, with the internet, blogs, and family trips like this.

I wish all kids could get some good field trips like this. I was amazed that for some of my out door ed. kids this was basically the only trip they had ever taken.

Hello Jenn, :=)
A field trip like this is a fantastic experience. Great photos of marine life, and the whale. Whale watching is something I have never had the good fortune to do, but would love to be out at sea in a boat watching them. Super video's Jenn.
