That was a dump of rain. We had 34 mm (1.33") on Friday morning.
The BBQ was in bad shape. I consulted with my SIL, and he said to scrub it, scrape it, then re-oil it. Once I got scraping, I realized that wasn't going to work, the scraping. There was too much rust. There was crud under the cooking grate, below the flame tamer. That I scooped up into the garbage can. I've really let it go, I guess.
There is a backstory to the BBQ. It was bought in May 2020. Yes, during COVID-19. That was a challenge:
More COVID–19 Era shopping. They spent time hoping to find staff resources to put together the one we wanted. We gave up, and ended up buying the larger floor model. Too much for just us, but we didn't have much choice! Then, we hired someone to pick it up, bring it to our home, and take the old one to the dump.
I had a supporter meowing at me from the Muskoka Room while I was working on cleaning it up! Can you see Nutmeg in the door, on the table?!
Caitlin mentioned Grillspot.ca. They have an American webpage, as well: Grillspot.com!
The paperwork from the BBQ listed the part numbers. It was easy, ordering replacement parts. Free delivery over $100, as I recall.
Out with the old and in with the new!
I covered them with vegetable oil, baked them for 20 min. at 200 - 300 F. degrees. We are good to go!

They arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on Saturday. They'd hired a tour guide, Cain, to take them on a food tour.
They landed, after another epic flight (8 hours) from Vietnam to Melbourne. More excitement to come!

We had a Huge BBQ, and gave it to the family who always had visitors and cooked lots of lamb, venison etc. We now have a Weber Q, Hugh uses a grill mat, silicon I guess, and we can roast a chook, a ham,( now have a Scanpan dish for that) or do chops, steak, salmon, etc. A few weeks ago I bought the smoker inserts and some Hickory shavings. It's so easy to clean.Hugh made a super wooden trolley, handles either end, shelf underneath, and castors. The FF, what long hauls, hope the trip to here is a lot easier.
Hello,
Cool photos from Vietnam. A food tour sounds fun.
Take care, have a wonderful week!
...what a trip!
That’s a lot of rust in a short time. Is it out in the elements all year? Ours is 20 years old and still limping along.
It is a good point, AC. It is too heavy to take off the deck. There is a great cover. I think my mistake was in not re-oiling it at the end of the season. Maybe stick newspapers in it over winter. Dunno.
The world travellers look happy.
That is a huge, fancy grill. We have a much smaller Weber, but Art rarely wants to grill anything. We're getting lazy in our older age.
We had that robot waiter in Tokyo and thought it was a lot of fun, too.
What a fun adventure!
Sadly the puzzle photo didn't load for me.
The travellers look to be enjoying themselves. Which is wonderful.
That is an exciting trip they are on!
i think sometimes u have 2 know your strengths and weakness ...it appears you did the right thing. i enjoy a challenge but it is not always super easy. lol. have a nice week. ( ;
Great job on the grill! We used to have one but didn't replace it when it fell apart. Hubby wasn't a fan of grilling but remember the taste of grilled food as being special. I was nervous around fire. So there you go, no grills for us, we missed the boat on that one. My goodness, what a trip!!! That robot bringing the food was really something.
A lot of work on the grill.
