The days continue to blossom, as we edge into warmer temperatures. We've been chilly, but out west it has been hot and fiery. Thousands of people have been displaced by the fires. They are angry and upset as they are told to evacuate, without farm animals, etc. I cannot imagine. They've interviewed Mayors of cities, and they are getting much abuse from constituents.
🔥 They've
87 active wildfires in
Alberta,
30 in Saskatchewan. It is massive, though, with 425,000 hectares that have burned. Sadly, they cut back on firefighters, disbanding a group of specialists:

🌞Let's celebrate the sunshine. (There is rain on the way!) My tulips continue to bloom, as the garden warms up. The ones near the house were earlier as there is a bit of a microclimate on the south-facing side of the house.
Deer and ticks 🦌
This was an interesting listen! CBC's Quirks and Quarks with Bob McDonald - May 13, 2023: Scientists figured out why deer don’t get Lyme disease from being bitten by ticks. Deer have antibodies that destroy the bacterium in the tick as they feed on the deer. The deer don't spread Lyme Disease, according to this study. 🍎 Last Friday, JB went on a grocery run in Smiths Falls. School kids from Duncan J. Schoular Public School - UCDSB (gr. 7/8s), were putting stickers on items for the Smiths Falls Community Food Bank needs, to promote the high cost of food for too many citizens. He cheered them on. People need to be earning a living wage, while CEOs, and the rich and famous earn obscene amounts of money.
He was so happy seeing kids out doing some good for the community! He explained that we donate monthly to our Perth food bank,
The Table. He gave them money to buy some food for their food bank.
🥀 The garden is greening up. I have candytuft blooming beside the goldfish pond, where Percy resides all alone. They munched the Candytuft at the end of the sidewalk. It IS growing back, but no blooms!
I've been weeding a little bit each day. Such is the life!
A dragonfly appeared, while we were watching for Fred Groundhog!
Fred hasn't been seen for a couple of days. I don't know it we've managed to scare him off, or not. He was still chewing on the deck on the weekend. (Look at the blue sky!)
The trailcam has been quite quiet, for the most part. The mosquitoes are horrid, and driving critters nuts. This young buck ambled through.

My outdoor baskets and perennials are doing well. I've even remembered to water them! We have a cold night overnight, with a front coming from the north. I may have to bring them in, but we'll watch the hourly temperature forecast.

...Crumbly Acres' spring is looking good.
From your comment at my place about forget-me-nots. In my experience they flower in the second year. But maybe that's because I seed late when this years flowers are done. Maybe if you seed now it will work. Time will tell.
So sad to hear of those fires. And mosquitoes! Not to mention frost possible. Lots of Mamma Nature throwing things your direction. Glad to hear of food banks being supported, by those who haven't got a terrible lot of excess themselves, I would think. You are so right about the disparity of economic status. Darn it all! It does make me mad, and I haven't any idea how to change it.
That's a cool thing that the kids are doing with the stickers. I like that idea.
It's pretty beautiful here right now too -- at long last. Your flowers are looking good. I'll be getting my geraniums this weekend and excited about it!
I heard that CBC show about the ticks. They are nasty things. I'm glad the deer are not responsible for spreading the disease.
Hooray for food banks - and a big sigh at their necessity.
Spring is looking good in your part of the world.
A little of the annoying and a little of the tender beauty of spring.
things are hot here. This is the first day we've had smoke. People rom the fire zones are in a very stressful situation.
I really like your bell in the garden. Candytuff, I totally forgot that I use to have some in my garden ... where did it go?? The Alberta wildfires are very scary.
I like the idea of putting stickers on products at the grocery store that the local food bank needs - what a gentle but visual reminder to help. Can I use your yellow can diced tomato photo to send to our local bank organizer as a suggestion?
The smoke seems to have affected our skies, as I've seen odd sunsets.
All those wildfires are scary!
I like that sweet candytuft. I have planted that in decades. I'd forgotten how pretty it is :)
