Finally, I ventured down to the forest, figuring any branches swaying would be down by now. This is the path down to the frog pond. I shook off the snow, and pulled the branch ends out of frozen clumps of snow. If I don't do that now, the branches will stay that way, bent. (Not my first rodeo!) A total 28 cm we had.
This isn't our first storm: Ice Storm Clean-up Part 4 <= this was from February 2016. The pine at the far end of the meadow is the one above.
I figure it has to be the smaller one, the baby porcupine, I spotted in October.

Bombogenesis... it is coming. It is a Colorado Low moving in. We have been warned:

even before I saw your picture of it, I was guessing porcupine! Very pretty pattern it has left, but that poor tree is going to be cold now it is nekkid!!! Stay huddled. YAM xx
Snow covered pines are so pretty. A baby porcupine, what a cutie!
Take care, have a happy day!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
We are expecting that storm too.
We will only get the littlest precipitation, then very very cold. So today I need to go out (with everyone and their dog) to get essentials. If I run out of Kleenix, I'll be forced to use TP. Same thing. I have chronic runny nose/ccough. It is better than last week when the fever got me. Now at least I wake up feeling good! Oh your poor trees. So sad.
Stay safe!
So much snow! We may get as much as an inch here in Memphis, TN, and the panic has begun! lol
Oh my. Stay safe.
Cute baby porcupine! Brrrr! Am
We had strong wind coming down the Fraser valley battering the trees behind our Bellingham condo. Looks like they all survived including a few standing dead ones from the beaver am flooding a few years back. - Margy
Everyone was in the grocery store this morning stocking up before the big storm. I hope it isn't too bad for you & your trees.
WOW! So much snow and more coming. I am in awe of those trees dropping with the weight. And you for getting out there to spare them. Don't suppose you want to hear about my 75 degree day. Be careful out there.
I now live in TX, and it's below zero at the moment, but I wish there was snow - it's cold enough:):)
With that forecast stay inside and keep warm.
Jenn - unfortunately, I recognize that picture of branches/trees being bent and stuck to the ground with heavy snow. I have been releasing trees all over our property. Some will recover, and others not.
Hope you are spared the worst of the ice storms.
I have branches that are chewed around their circumference (and it kills the branch) but not the whole tree. I also suspect a porcupine but I have yet to see it!
Merry Christmas, Jenn!
Well, I knew it wasn't a beaver but I was surprised it was a baby porcupine and now I know, love learning this kind of thing. Thanks Jenn :) Those little guys are so cute! The snow photos look gorgeous but I know it brings its challenges. Stay safe, stay warm.
Wow, that's a lot of snow! Hope the storm isn't too damaging when it comes.
Porcupines eat tree bark? All the way up the tree? Amazing!
