It's been an interesting few weeks. We are still working on preventing this gun range and it's difficult to turn it all off. Another early morning that not even a radio show on flatulence in animals could send me to sleep.
We had a neighbour come by with a petition she and another person created. I have high hopes. More to come! I mean, I 'say' neighbour, but they are on the lake, somewhat removed from us. We are becoming a community.
It makes me happy to see Felix and Sir John in the guest room! I smile every time I go to 'powder my nose!'
It was a high of 22 C. yesterday. When I was first up it was 4 C. Just a glorious second summer after some frost. What did I do? I put out our winter lights. What better time to be putting up winter lights in the sun and warmth? There have been some bitterly cold days when I wished I'd begun earlier. It was
Diwali yesterday, the Hindu Festival of Lights! Perfect!
I cleaned, dried and wrapped the water fountain. This setup is taking some work. The biting, invasive Lady Beetles didn't help. They are swarming for winter hibernation. Our native Lady Bugs do not bite.
The top string of lights isn't working. I might just remove it totally and tighten up the string. JB bought us a lovely sparkly globe light for the top. He took off on a scavenger mission and did well.
I selected a clay pot on which to fasten it, which makes a tree shape of sorts.
I have lights for the front. Having tried and tried to repair the wires the mice chewed last winter, I couldn't find the correct extension cord, nor match the specific amps. There was a glue gun involved. I gave up. I brought the tree out yesterday. JB bought us a string of white lights, and I think it does the job. We may just get another string, though.
I took a lovely walk in the forest, grabbing trailcam SD cards. I watched this mouse hole all winter and nothing happened. It's as if it is a three-season exit and entrance.
It's been a beautiful few days. I know the cold is coming. People have been out flying and enjoying the weather.
The skunk has been up and down the driveway. It was 9 p.m., not a.m., but I'm fed up with resetting the time! skunk from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.
In the night, 😼Oregano is back, trotting up the driveway. I haven't seen him all summer, not since May. The light scared him the first time, but now he just dashes by. I still don't know where he comes from.
He came, again.
That was a fine day. We've another fine day today. I'll cross off a few more things off the 🍂Fall Chores list.

...we have had a frost, so now our beautiful weather qualifies as Indian Summer.
It's neat seeing skunks.
It sounds like you are taking advantage of this weather.

I am trying hard not to be envious of your finer weather - but learned that on the east coast of this Bonny Land, they are also having something of a late balm... so it's just here then, that is proper cold and damp! YAM xx
Well done on your chores.
Our temperatures (on the other side of the world and in a very different season) are similar to yours.
Yay to holiday lights! Any holiday! I also strung a couple yesterday, in my apartment windows.
Glad to hear about the petition. But I have to disagree on a radio show on flatulence in animals. I think that would be fascinating. Don't you wonder?
It's good people are joining together as a community. It can be hard to know how to organize. I'm hoping y'all succeed :)
The Ladybugs are swarming here and setting off the motion alarms. They gather on the outside door and when I open it they fly right in. Need to keep an eye out for the biting bug. We leave the good ladies alone and they stay inside all winter-- unless they end up on a dinner plate or in a saucepan.
To me, the rural community seems to be a lot tighter and together than any in a big city. You never know Jenn, might get to know some new friends who will all join in the opposition to the gun club. Oregano, a man with a mission maybe. As it gets colder, maybe he will sleep on the deck again.
It looks like you have snow on the ground in the last two photos.
Well, have to say your header photo is stunning Jenn. Your header shots are always nice but because I love Fall, I love this one particularly. Oh dear about the gun range. I wush you successful with the petition going round. I think I may have told you we have one a couple of miles away, and people are always on our neighborhood app asking if anyone heard gun shots, being very worried about those. Many reassure them that it is the gun range. I guess if the wind is blowing in the right direction it sounds very close. Your guest room looks very warm and inviting. Felix and Sir John would make me smile too. We have had some lovely warm days and the birds took a bath yesterday. No sign of them today as the weather has gone cooler again. That’s a wonderful close-up of the lady beetle(?). Your deer seems to enjoy the lights :) I love skunks, don’t want to be anywhere near them though and enjoyed from afar thanks to your video. Nice to see Oregano coming into view. Apparently we have more coyotes in our area now. Someone took a recording of their yowling. It was very eerie but fascinating at the same time. People are being warned to keep their pets inside and not to leave them out on their own. I am impressed with your Fall Chores list. Must get one of those for myself!
Maybe Oregano got hit by the skunk, and is avoiding your pleasant driveway, or running out of the skunk's range. Hope skunk doesn't surprise the humans. Linda in Kansas
It looks like snow, Red, but it's just the leaves reflecting the trailcam light!
I escorted a lady beetle out of the house today. She wasn't best pleased with me.
I wish you the best on your gun range issue. Sounds like we both have the same perfect weather now the freeze is gone. LOVE the holiday lights.
