It's Canada Day!

We spent Canada Day with this girls one year. That was my favourite. Canada is 155 years young. There are many Indigenous People who aren't celebrating. The government did such harm. I hope reconciliation continues. Out of respect for Indigenous People and the Sixties Scoop, many of us reflect on the past, the present, and the future.

This is my favourite flag. This beautiful flag was designed by the late Curtis Wilson, who lived in Campbell River, B.C. He died of a heart attack. Curtis "Mulidzas" Wilson (1980-2019)

I don't like fireworks, and maybe tonight's rain will dissuade them. We've some US cottagers and they tend to extend the celebrations.

In the meantime, I shall enjoy the garden. The season is so short!
The Bugloss is visited often by the hummingbird. I haven't, as yet, managed a photo!

The clematis is lovely! I held the camera above my head for this.

The back deck has been safe and fun. The bugs have lessened, and I've enjoyed reading back there. We seem to have two little frogs on a consistent basis. She spent all day there.
Life imitates art! This one hopped off and climbed on the swing bench as I worked.

The potato beetles have been at the Angel's Trumpet, Brugmansia.

Happy Canada Day to one and all. We've been cleaning and tidying. Jesse and family leave Vancouver today to visit in Ottawa. We anticipate their visiting us on Monday. I've beds to make, tidying to do, and I'm looking forward to welcoming them!

Some of us are having similar thoughts as we approach July 4th -"Independence" Day. Mixed emotions.

Your clematis is gorgeous. I had one, but it didn't survive 'til the next summer :( It'd be fun to welcome regular frog visitors :)

Happy Canada Day!

Jenn - Happy Canada Day! As others have mentioned in the comments, I have mixed emotions about the Fourth of July - I can celebrate the notion of independence, but not freedom ... Love your flowers and your tiny frogs. I was amused that you put the camera over your head to get the picture of the clematis! We are visiting our son in Idaho Falls for the weekend, and it is going to be wonderful in every way!

Just as Australia Day holds value for the federation from the government of Westminster, so too it shares that conundrum of the damage caused to pre-existing residents of the continent. Happy B'day Canada; continued healing to you! YAM xx

Enjoy the day. I didn't even put up my flag this year because of all those fools in Ottawa taking the flag as their symbol of rebellion.

The flag you shared is one I haven't seen before and it is beautiful! Mixed emotions indeed. Many our countries seem to have their part of history like this. I fervently hope we can all be one and here's living in hope. I enjoyed each photo especially the ones of you and the little ones. All very cute! I haven't seen any frogs in my garden for a long time, but we go to the park and see tons this time of the year. Your flowers are lovely. I noticed my first fireflies last night. Always remember that first time 46 years ago when I came to this country and there they were. It was magical! Happy Canada Day Jenn :)

I ignored the "special" day and did yard work. I can never get finished so it was nice to have a one day less of volunteer work so I could volunteer in my yard. My partner, Fleur-Ange, went into Brantford to attend an indigenous story telling session near one of the old residential schools.

I hope you and yours survive the fireworks.

I spent the day appreciating art and avoiding the inbred "protesters".
