The red polls, fox and fisher

I sat on the front deck in the sunshine. Using the tripod, it helped as I could prefocus. My reactions are terrible slow! I was determined to get a photo of the redpolls prior to their migration north.

We have had upside downsie temperatures. The snowbanks melt, and make puddles on the sidewalk. Then, as it freezes overnight, it makes things slippery. What we do is throw some bird seed down on it. I ventured outside, and Fuzzy and mummy were eating the bird seed!

The snow has melted a great deal in the front.

Our herd... Some are regulars, like Fuzzy. Also, a doe with twins.
Fuzzy and her mummy.
Word spread, however, and we had 25 deer.

We're in for a sudden melt. Tuesday rather than 6, it was quite warm.
It was glorious yesterday.  The temperature went up to 11 C.!

There is a microclimate in the front of the house. The sun warms the house, and it retains the heat on the deck. It was 15 C.!

We've still lots of snow. See the roof! It's melting much faster in the front of the house, in the warmth of the sunshine.

Poor snow elf has kicked the bucket!!

With the fluctuation temperatures, RVCA has sent out some warnings:

Residents in flood-prone or low-lying areas, historically susceptible to flooding, should take the necessary precautions to protect their property, such as:
• Ensuring sump pump is clear, in good working condition and has a backwater valve
• Ensuring easy access to a portable backup generator and pump
• Ensuring downspouts are clear and the outlet is at least 3 metres from the dwelling
• Securing items that might float away as flows increase
• Removing valuable items from basements or lower floors that could be subject to flooding
• Keeping emergency phone numbers handy
• Familiarizing yourself with your municipality’s Emergency Preparedness Plan

Trailcams

Vimeo, who I pay to host my video, has switched things up. We'll see how this shows on your webpages. Progress, me arse!

Down at the trail, in the forest was the fox. Also, the fisher.

Late yesterday afternoon, Wednesday down here, we had 20C outside, further south it was 10 C and daughter had lit their fire. Autumn is here, with darker mornings and leaves slowly changing colour. Love your herd, a delight to see them there.Lots of snow and fluctuating temps for you, but with some days that are warmer, your spring is nigh.,XXX

Lovely bird shots!

So many deer! My deck faces south too and with a mostly brick wall behind it the temps yesterday were like in the Mediterranean!

We have various war microclimates around our house including a south facing semi-wind blocked front porch and various critters living around us. We had some huge winds the other day that knocked a couple squirrel nests down. I was watching a squirrel on a cast iron structure we have on the back patio that contains several clay pots for plants. She had stuck a couple of her babies in a couple of the pots but when she saw me, she moved them somewhere else.

I love your trail cam. Such great images in low light but I guess the snow helps.

They like to keep us guessing, but I am sure there is a way to scale the videos down to size. :)

I upload my videos to YouTube for free and it's very satisfactory. I appreciate this visit with you and experiencing your changing seasons. Thank you Pat

Nice shots of the redpolls. That's quite the herd coming in to eat but really enjoy your cams especially the fisher. Lol at your snow elf. Will soon be spring.

All the best Jan

The deer know where they have it good.

I had a look at the Ottawa River today. Ice is starting to look weak, and we'll have to wait and see what spring conditions do in this area.

It's good to see the snow melting, but not so fast that it causes flooding! What a lot of deer visit you. Glad you caught some photos of the Redpolls before they fly off.

@Cloudia, I have hundreds of videos on YouTube, but the spam, and the endless ads put me off. Vimeo is free, as well, but I upgraded.
