An adventure in the time of COVID–19

We don't use salt in our water softener, we use potassium chloride, as it's better for sensitive skin issues. We needed to top up the tank. OK, off I went online. It's the only way. Last time I went to get some (pre-COVID), they gave me salt. There are only so many stores that carry it.

I found it available in Carleton Place. OK, it was ordered it for pick-up.

They sent an email Wednesday, saying it was ready to pick up. We weren't going into CP until Friday, and they kindly sent a reminder Thursday that it was waiting for me. I KNOW! I KNOW!

You never know how long this online stuff will take. Seed companies are saying a two-week (or more) delay, for example. That's the same with pre-ordered groceries.

I printed the email, and off we went.  On the way through Perth, we spotted the walking track they are creating on the old Darou Farmland <= I documented the farm house deconstruction on this parcel of land, as they tore down the old stone house. They had an issue with swallows nesting in the shed. The shed remains. They are endangered. I'm not sure what happened with that! (I asked our local paper editor. She'll find out!) It'll be nice to have a walking track out in the open. JB's been walking around our property, but the bugs will be out soon.

Made it. It seemed really busy. We arrived about 2:45.

As we headed out, a line-up for beer!

Poor JB went into Barnabe's on Sunday, for the 7 a.m. senior's hour. A couple, white trash, in their 20's coughing with runny noses. They were ignoring the directional arrows on the floor, and physical distancing. The dude was 6'+ and intimidating. It is scary times for everyone.

And the laughs continue...

Our education minister is suggesting educational staff volunteer in long-term care, with the high infection rates and death tolls. All the while, teachers are supposed to be doing F2F with all students. That just isn't going to happen. Kids are sharing family computers, parents are working from home on said computers, and there is too much pressure on families as it is.

...I didn't know about potassium chloride, I learned something new today and it's only 7:34AM!

Hello,

Sounds like potassium Chloride is something we could use here. We have not tried pre-ordering the groceries. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week!

That education minister doesn’t sound like he attained his position through good education.

(Shauna is at work everyday, so she is still keeping her distance form the kids, just in case. Thankfully, Lanark Leisure has done really well with no cases other than that one worker who shares an apartment with a worker from the other home in Perth. She was recognized very early and quarantined herself. That other home has been hit hard enough, but they seem to have been able to keep it under the radar for the most part. This has surprised Shauna.)

These are interesting if challenging times, thanks for the update. We are thinking of going to Home Depot for fertilizer.

I think it is fair to say that confusion reigns in the time of COVID. You will have heard, perhaps, that our PM has sent out the most confusing of non-instructions to the people of England. Scotland, NI and Wales are sticking to the stay at home plan... but of course, we have significant English population up here and they don't see fit to follow the rulings of the country which provides them with their life and services, but instead, the fnaugh-fnaugh-guffblaster's witterings. Sigh... I's sticking to the Hutch. YAM xx

My daughter, who normally works for the provincial government, has a health vulnerability. Her department was asked to go work in LTC which given the current health environment, is a big NO NO for her. My daughter has been sequestered in her condo since midMarch. Her health is so fragile that she is terrified to even go down in the elevator to get some fresh outdoor time.

We don't use a watch treatment system though I'm sure we should be. Our friends fill up our water jugs.

These are crazy times. And what can I say about Trump? For someone who brags about his own stable genius mind, he sure seems ignorant and out and out stupid acting. (Just my opinion no sarcasm intended.)

I'm getting more afraid each day when you hear of more cases. A Loblaws store has been closed down here for deep cleaning after several staff members have taken ill.

We had excellent service from our Zehr's Instacart today. Ordered about a dozen items at 11:30 and it arrived before noon. I could not even drive into the store and get the order that quickly. It would take me over an hour to go to town, shop, and return.

I did not know that Potassium chloride was still available. It has not been at any local store for over a year and, somehow, it did not occur to me to look online.
