Women's Soccer!

JB's been watching the tournament. I'm fascinated with the whole thing. I tend to watch Canadian games, though, or the big team matches.

There is some controversy regarding the VAR, video reviews. They use it to check for violations, if there is some question. It really slows the game down, though.

France vs. Brazil

I love seeing these strong women, both calling games, as well as coaching.

This was the Brazil/France game, in France.

These women are fast, and want the ball, and fight for it on the field.

Also, they wear sensors, and know how far and how fast the women run. Look at her stats: top speed 25.6 km/hour, and nearly 9 km of running.

Monday, Canada's Women's team played Sweden.

From this, you can tell where they are playing.

Some teams play 4 - 3 - 3, others, like Canada, do 4 - 4 - 2.

What is interesting is TSN's panel. It's the first all-women panel. They are wonderful! TSN is a Canadian channel.

"...how rare it is to see an all-women team on TV
doing analysis and punditry
with their knowledge, vigour and wit."

1. Host Kate Beirness, born in Port Perry, Ontario.
2. Clare Rustad, played for Canada's national women's soccer team from 2000 - 2008.
3. Kaylyn Kyle, won a bronze medal in 2012, and is retired from the national team.
4. Diana Matheson, scored the bronze-winning goal at the same 2012 London Games, and won bronze at Rio 2016 Olympics. She has had an injury, but has played midfield since 2003.

As if soccer wasn't a slow enough sport to begin with.

I'm sure it's a fine event.

we're obviously watching it and were cheering on both Canada and England. Good to see women's sport highlighted for a change.

I love soccer. I loved playing it, right up until the grandkids stopped coming to visit.

We don't watch the games, but see that the U.S. seems to be doing well so far. I know two of the players have said they won't go to the White House if they win.
