where there is smoke - there will be fires

Fire destroys Muskoka Lakes boathouse
The Bracebridge Banner reports two fires. On Aug. 7, the one fire, damaging boats in a boathouse, was due to 'unknown causes'.  Firefighters from Windermere and Raymond were called to a brush fire off Skeleton Lake Road 3 in Beaumont Bay after 3 p.m.

Firefighters fought the blaze for an hour.

The cause of the fire was illegal brush burning, said Schneider, acting fire chief... (read the rest of the story here!)

Unfortunately, the maximum fine for illegal brush burning is $300. A pittance.

We see bonfires all around the area. Brushfires, bonfires, burning of wet leaves.

[49.jpg]There was another brush fire on Campbell Lake Road  on Aug. 6 in at 3:15 p.m.

People forget that others are enjoying the outdoors, as they are filling the skies with smoke, others depend upon having their windows open to cool themselves down!

In summer, different levels of fire bans exist.

Around here, there is no daytime burning without permits, when we've had a wet day or two, but even residents, renters and  guests seem to love the myths and memories around fires.

Many do not know, care or understand about the dangers of hydrofluorocarbons.

 Oury precious Muskoka is a mess. It smells of smog from the US, on those smog days. Too many coal-fired furnaces.

And still they fight the local hydro project!

Acting Chief Schneider, Deputy Quinton.
Acting Chief Schneider is seen here, checking out the scene of another fire, after numerous media calls for more info. What was up, he wondered?

Police Called to Bala Location After Resident Refuses Hydro and Fire Personnel Entry to Property

The wires were buried in conifers at the new Habitat for Humanity Bala build site. All the volunteers were quite concerned!

And some fires are more poisonous.

Russian fires hit Chernobyl-affected areas, threatening recontamination
Russia's state forest watchdog says fires covering hundreds of hectares have been recorded on lands contaminated by the Chernobyl disaster. Experts warn that the blazes could lift nuclear particles into the atmosphere.

I share your frustration, Jenn. It's difficult to understand why some people "just don't get it."

It only takes a few idiots to spoil everything.

Hi Jenn;
How do you get captions under your photos. Like you, I use a Mac. But when I go to Blogger help, the message is to right-click this and right-click that and I just don't get PC instructions.
I've tried going to the HTML window and adding CAPTION as suggested but it just comes up in blue type between photos and not under the photo inside the box.
Hopefully you can shed some light for me.
Thanks

I like the 'fast water keep away' sign and everybody is lounging in it? These are the first people that will complain if the fire department can't save them quickly enough if they get in trouble. Too bad NOBODY can save them from their own stupidity!

Hi Jenn;
I have tended to lurk on your site more than post! :-) Your posts are always thought provoking!
I have seen my share of insanity with fire , no less, in town where the consequences to their neighbours can be rapid.
As for air quality - it is pretty terrible isn't it?

One of our friends on the lake lost his float cabin. We passed by at about 6:00 and by 9:00 the next morning there was nothing left but a smoldering log float. The fire was son intense the logs were burned to the water line, a total loss. No one knows what happened. The RCMP responded a few days later, but they were only concerned about looking for a body. When none was found that was it. - Margy

Fires are great to watch, but they can be so dangerous when they get out of control! I love the video of a fireplace that my daughter gave me years ago! I can run that, and sit by the fire and sew to my heart's content!

What makes you think you have the right to photograph private property? You must live a very sad life to be this whiny and critical of everybody elses behavior. I'm not sure who died and left you king of Muskoka but just let people enjoy their vacations. If I want to have a fire on my beach, I will and you can't do a thing about it. Next time you take a picture of my property, youll be looking at my burning fire and my bare white ass. You nazi.

PS. Take the picture of my property down before my lawyer forces you to. It is illegal to photograph and publish photos of private property without the consent of the owner. You certainly do not have my consent. Thank you.

If you have any questions, you may email me at burdick86@hotmail.com
