Saturday's Critters

It has been a dreary few days for both news and weather. Our rain continues, but we are about to get colder, with a front coming from the north.

Sadly, there is little ice and snow for winter activities. In Manotick, 4 teens went skating in Manotick, and they fell through the ice. Two have died. It just isn't safe out there, with deaths in Quebec, and Alberta, as well as here in Ontario.

'Ice can be very deceiving,' warns expert after recent deaths

I did do a morning workout Wednesday. It was wiser to do indoor chores! Here I am, ready for Saturday's Critters!

The twins are adorable. They are smaller than some of the other fawns, and have lovely fuzzy coats. This one is quite taken with King Charles IV.

We've not much longer for King Charles and his antlers. They drop off in the new year after rutting season is over (January/February).

The cottontail has been busy!

Then there is the fisher.

That fisher is so big, I did not realize how large they could get. What a beautiful sight. Happy belated birthday wishes & I'm glad you were celebrated. Wishing you a Happy 2024.

What a tragic accident, but really, you'd think even teens would know.

I wonder if there will be a skateway this year? But you say that the weather is about to change, so . . .

We're in the same weather box as you. Only you have MUCH more snow. (We have none!)

Loved seeing all the deer! So sorry to hear of children dying while playing on ice. Hope the next weather front gives you some nice snow. I really don't expect any here this year, though the higher elevations are due to get some this weekend.

The critters must be such fun to watch. We had a snowflake or two predicted but only got drizzly rain

I'm still surprised that the rabbit is out & about but it has been warm I guess.

So far, we had short rains; we need much more. We usually have no snow at all. The white beauty avoids us. The mornings and evenings are cold.

Lots of critters out and about.

You should get some kind of connection that would let you sit in the house and watch your trail cams!

I noticed your comment about the last time you had seen a moose. Was that the one at the corner of the 511 just outside of the village? that moose got photographed sooo much before she left.
We had one walk through because we saw the tracks, but did not spot it. That was two years ago or more. But, we do have deer. I love your fawn twins; interesting how small they are. Most of the fawns still with mama around here are almost as big as the mother, but lighter colour and more delicate.

That is so tragic! They didn't think to test the ice first somehow? Is there a way to test the ice? Gosh!

It's wonderful to have nature all around you, Jenn.

I hate to hear about the deaths from falling through the ice. I hope things get to normal and you have weather that you expect. It's cool here in Florida but about right for getting outside. Happy New year my friend!
