Happy home anniversary!

Sept. 15th, 2010 was the day we took possession of this house. It was epic for us. One of the first things I did was to dig my goldfish pond. I spotted this old photo, and realized how much the spruce behind it has grown. You can just see the tree trunk, and it must be 30' tall.

This view has changed. Both evergreens block the view! I planted forsythia there.

Everything has grown, including the grandies! The spruce tree is much larger, although I've been trimming it. Even the catalpa tree in the center background has doubled in size. Josephine is now in gr. 10.

This was my first post about our arrival. The sirens went off our first morning at 7 a.m.: Feeling right at home! Hooray for volunteer firefighters. Since then we've had several incidents here.

The motorcycles are the worst. They get louder and louder, despite technology, and faster and faster.
I was sitting reading Saturday afternoon, trying to relax, and heard something going on. A man yelling at someone, calling them an @ss in a very loud voice. Then, he put pedal to the metals and screamed off towards Smiths Falls.

In 2012, Scott Dobson added a gate to our fence. It made me feel safer.
It is a bungalow, with a walk-in shower, and we could manage a long time. We want to go out feet first!

Our 2012 gate - strangers kept driving in!
Scott Dobson and Old Al create old-style fences!

Crossing the highway to get our mail is our benchmark. If we are too slow to do this, then it is time to move. The highway is crazy, and people are going way too fast. This was Monday morning as I was taking out garbage. Just makes me cringe, the noise as they gun the motor. There was a car coming, as well, and the guy being passed had to brake, as well as the oncoming car.

It's been a great property for us, all told. There is lots to maintain, but most of our 16 acres is wetland. A house that is in its 30s has needed some upgrades, repairs, and replacements. We replaced the shingles, the furnace, added insulation to the attic, and

Even a cave dwelling required maintenance to keep it habitable! I know from personal experience how beautiful your setting is and wish you many more happy years there! YAM xx

Yikes, I'm happy to live at the very end of a dirt road! We still get ATVs and hunters scream by though ::(
My house is 32 years old and needs an urgent chimney repair, but guess what, can't get anyone to do it. We just keep praying that it doesn't fall down.
Thank goodness we have a steel roof with a 50 yr. guarantee. Plumbing is an ongoing endeavor too. sigh.....maybe rent next????

Happy Anniversary! What a cool idea to celebrate it. Making a home ready to age in place for the duration is challenging. I trust you'll achieve your feet first goal -well into the future :)

so it turned out to be a great place to live. Every place needs some regular maintenance like shingles. and it looks like it came with grandkids too!

There will always be some repair work and upkeep, no matter how extravagant or simple a home might be. Even the old horse and cart would have needed maintenance !!! Hugh declares we will NEVER move from where we are now, but that day might come. Help with outside cleaning of spouting and eaves is a big help.Lovely to see the earlier photos.Road traffic, or street racers, they are such a worry.

Congratulations on your home anniversary! Great that you kept those photos and can show so many growths in the environment. Sorry to hear about the highway though. Perhaps dig a few pot holes and slow theb down! Did I say that out loud? Tee hee.

Too bad about the traffic. It looks very heavy and loud!!

My parents in Idaho lived right on a county road that got busier and busier as time went on. Drove me crazy, especially at night.

Congratulations on your Home Anniversary. We also celebrate that day. I like to buy "the house" a gift, this year it was the landscape project & the ensuite reno. I have about 15 home garden photo albums - I like seeing the changes to the garden & trees. As for traffic noise & racing vehicles, it was one of the many things we enjoyed about the first lockdown, little to no traffic on the road just outside of our subdivision.

Glad you are still enjoying the place as long as you can deal with the traffic out front. I imagine you are back from it a way and sheltered.
