Marijuana is legal in Canada!

There are rules for travel.
Don't cross the border with it!
I've been watching the big day, Wednesday, Oct. 17th, when Canada became the second country in the world to legalize marijuana. Uruguay was the first (2013). They overlook it in a couple of countries. In the US some states have legalized it, but the federal government continues to forbid it. This means that Canadians can travel domestically with up to 30 grams of weed, but they cannot cross the border with it.

Originally, the US Trump administration said that even people affiliated with companies could not cross the border. That move was rescinded. There is much cross border business done. It is legal in some states.

There are many applications of cannabinoids. Now that it is legal, more research can be done. They know that certain strains help with sleep, others help with pain management, and can replace dangerous, addictive opioids.

We took a tour on Wed., Oct. 17th, the day marijuana became legal in Canada. Each province and territory has its own rules about possession.

Police are being trained to recognize drug impairment.

In honour of this day, JB and I voted in our municipal election, and then went on to visit Tweed's plant. They were so happy! The visitor centre features a 20-minute video, which we didn't stay to watch. I had an appointment.

The moss walls were fascinating.
When we left, there was a Brinks truck, with big dudes collecting money!
There was a celebration planned in the afternoon, with media setting up.

There is a viewing area, on the second floor, where you can see the plants growing under lights.

They are making chocolate in the building, again!

Finally, something good for the people of Smiths Falls, and Ontario, and the Canadian economy.

i know no place is perfect, but lately I have been kind of wishing I could move to Canada.

My state legalized marijuana to some extent. I think you can have a small amount but you can't purchase it but can grow three plants, something like that. I have no interest in recreational use, personally, but if I had a medical problem that could be relieved by its use, I would certainly try it.

I don't know much about the subject, except that some celebrities in my country use it in tiny quantity daily; it helps them function and compete. How do I know that? Dealers were caught and they blew the whistle on their clients. Some of these clients (involved in educational TV) even lost their job.

Tweed is now so aptly named ... as in tWEED.

I do agree with decriminalizing, but there's no way I'd use it.

I was surprised at how much media coverage was given to this day.

Seriously, Tweed is growing Weed? That used to be a joke when I was growing up. I'm weirdly happy it's been decriminalized considering I have no interest in the substance, except medicinal if I ever am in need. You made a good observation that research will be easier now that it's legalized.
Thanks for the read.

Colorado was the first State in our Union to legalize pot for everybody. All other states were watching us and we did very well. Even tho all dealers/stores had to deal in cash and not bank, etc., etc. We had an influx of businesses and money at that time and those people and businesses have gradually moved to new states who have said that pot is no more or no less a problem for people than beer or wine. Yippee!! Although it is still a federal crime in the States, I think we have set the stage for a national acceptance in the near future. I LOVE Colorado!!!

A company is refurbishing a building here in Powell River to legally grow cannabis. Right now they are tied up waiting for approvals from the government. - Margy
