Sat., March 10th's drive 'twas a whim.
Narrows Lock to see the birds! #1
Narrows Lock to Newboro #2
From Newboro we drove on Westport Rd. to see the river in Fermoy. It wasn't very open on Wolf Lake. We we retraced our track and went to Chaffeys Lock, via Westport.
Lots of lakes and locks!
On the way there, I spotted a River Otter. Too fast for us to get a photo, but they are lovely critters! It was running across a driveway, and up a hill.

At Chaffeys Lock, we went to Opinicon for lunch. We've been here several times [We went to Opinicon]. Their dining room closed over the winter, but the bar is open Wed. to Sun.
You can see, from my photos, how dreary the day turned. We thought we'd pop in here for lunch. The Opinicon sat empty for years. It's a great spot, where the falls invited mills back in the day. Then, it was made part of the Rideau Canal which facilitated travel.
Here it is, nestled in the trees.
It was a loud meal. One dude talked the entire time, dominating the conversation. It was somewhat disconcerting. My linguine carbonera was a little more than that. It had snow peas, dried tomatoes, onions, with the normal bacon bits, and parmesan cheese. I'm not sure I was thrilled with it. Either more veggies, and a different sauce, or keep it to the basics. It was cooked well, not over done as in many places.

The renovated foyer is lovely. They are working on the dining room and some of the out buildings.

Ice fishing might be a tad precarious if the thaw is on! I bet that fellow's voice echoed in that dining space... YAM xx
You turned this into quite an extensive outing, or at least an extensive recounting. :)
I feel obliged to post the photos for hubby, who drive in order to let me take photos. He doesn't particularly like driving! You don't need to look at them all, AC!
Nice work, will go check Andrew King website. At least it is sunny here for March break.
Love that otter picture! It's otterly beautiful!
What a great day trip! Even dreary weather didn't put a damper on the quiet beauty of the outdoor scenes!
Lovely series of photos ~ depicting the best of winter and enjoy a glass of wine too!
Happy Day to you,

I can't recall ever hearing of the Opinicon before.
