Do you ever get a phone call and no one is there?

We have, in the past couple of days. I am deeply suspicious.

There are a lot of phone scams about.

I did *69 and found the number: 416-342-9708. Then I did reverse look-up, as well as a Google search.

They say it is a Telus number, but I am dubious.

Jan 30, 2014 - One-ring scam: Telephone customers return hang-up calls from foreign ... normal phone lines, letting the phones ring once before hanging up.

Feb 4, 2014 - In the one-ring scam, the phone will ring and hang up when or before the recipient answers. Those who are curious enough to call the number are billed.

What I think is that someone is doing this in order to have you sign up for a monthly reverse look-up account.

Here is an old scam:

If it isn't a number I recognize I won't answer it and if they really want to talk to me they will leave a message. We dumped our land line almost 2 years ago and now I rarely, if ever, get any of these types of calls. I think there have been 2 that came through and I am no able to block that number and they don't call again.

If you paste just the phone number into Google, it will lead you to various sites where others leave comments discussing what happens when they get these calls. Some seem to think that it's a faux cruise line trying to get you to sign up for something. Eventually, these calls turn into a recording call or a true voice call. The bots seem to take note of the time you answer the phone so they'll know when to call back and scam you for real.

I hope nothing awful comes of it, Jenn. I hate to think that someone could get access to my phone line and use it for nefarious purposes.
I hardly ever get a chance to say "nefarious purposes"!
I love the photo of one of your girls walking on the railing.
Hugs, K

I get these calls all the time. I have call identification and any strange number is not answered in my house. If somebody really wants me they'll leave a message.

So many scams out there these days both on the phone and Internet. I have used caller ID to figure out the source, but haven't tried your method of *69. - Margy

I'm with Red on this one. I just refuse to pick up if I don't know the number. Those who care know how to reach me other ways. YAM xx

We don't have Caller ID, as we don't really get that many phone calls! We are on the Do Not Call list.
Mostly it is one of the three universities I attended, begging for money for the young people!
