PART XIII: Getting to the hospital, pre-op, off to surgery

Snow day from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.
First job pre-op: use the snow blower on the driveway. The drifting snow was 30 cm on top of the 24cm on the ground. Then it was a 90 minute drive into the city.
No one said it was easy!

Next, it was an overnight stay at Rotel. They offer Cheap and Cheerful motel rooms for those needing to be at the hospital early. We had dinner out. He said it could be his 'Last Supper!' What a sense of humour!

4:00 a.m. Here we were, getting ready for a 6:00 a.m. intake appointment at the Critical Care Wing.

5:30 a.m. Check out of Rotel, drive into the -19 C. car to the parking lot.
Take the parking chit in, to validate it before I leave.
A selfie, before we leave!

They open at 6:00 a.m.,
we were 1st there at 5:30!
This is the family waiting room.
6:44 a.m. Our nurse, Krysta, took him to cubicle #1 (of 23!) prepared him, got him his gown, took his vitals. Now we wait for them to wheel him to the surgery room. We think she said there are 17 surgery rooms. It's a large teaching hospital.

7:00 a.m. He had a message for the grandkids and his cat!
Last selfie,
before they took him away!

Pre-op message from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.
"Grampa says hello. Sady's to be a good girl!"
Sady threw up three times last night/this morning. I know Buster gave her a hard time. He just wants to play with her!
7:30 a.m. Off he went to surgery.
8:00 - 2:00 p.m. Surgery - if the surgeon has time, he will phone me to let me know how it all went.
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. He lies down, on his gurney, in the recovery room. If they have a room, he'll be taken to one in the evening for overnight.
