The bonus of trying to get a cat in at night, is hearing night sounds.
Not only that, but seeing the stars.
I'm not a foul weather photographer. If I do, I photograph from the safety of my house! There are some nights when I do get out.
Last night Buster Brown, who seems to have gotten over the death of his twin brother, decided that since he'd slept all day (86.5mm of rain!) that he ought to stay out all night.
We put on the spotlights, and hope the coyotes, wolves, and other wildlife, stay away.
I yelled frequently, further hoping the critters will hear me and run. I use my Yard Duty- teacher voice! To no avail, apparently. I used to be able to get a kid's attention across a football field.
Buster, bless him, has selective hearing. My late father had that, too.
I tried to get him in at 11:30, 12:00, when he was bouncing around the driveway hoping I would take him for a walk. But no way would he come indoors. Then, finally, at 12:30 he chose to come in. I've been corrected! They are Barred Owls. "Who cooks for you?" is the key to their song. You can read more, and hear more on the uCornell's YouTube channel.

As I stood in our Muskoka Room, I was waiting for the cat to respond to my calls. Instead, I heard the owls talking to one another.

I enjoyed your owls hooting. I think mating season is happening soon. I've been hearing them early in the morning. Very cool!
Nifty owl noises, Jenn, and I'm so glad Buster didn't keep you up, calling him, until down.
I had to laugh at your mention of your "Yard Duty teacher voice" because my husband has a teacher voice. I've never heard him use it for the dog, but he's used it on me once or twice, until I set him straight. I'm not one of his students. Not even one of his former students.

loved hearing the hoot owls, great idea to video and capture their sounds
I couldn't hear them hooting...bummer! Must be my hearing, or my very bad speakers on my laptop!

The owl is a magic call to me. I rarely hear them anymore but on the farm they wee common.
Cat's are like that. When we were trying to make ours indoors only, he would sneak out at dark and refuse to return. We would sleep with the door open so he could get back in. Even though we were in the city, we had lots of coyotes. That really made us worry. - Margy
