House deconstruction!

BEFORE

I'd heard about it on Facebook. Apparently, it's a dangerous corner, with quite a few incidents. (I refuse to call them accidents!) I wasn't sure which house they meant.

The home has had a number of owners over the years. People on Facebook were commenting on it.

The Amers lived there in the 40s and 50s. The Fairfields in the late 60s, then the Hamiltons. As with small towns, people know one another and were commenting. The home owners that lived there 17 years had a doggie daycare. I used to smile as I passed them. The last owners did renos, and it was for sale. They are OK with the decision to demolish it to make the road safer. They took out things that were reusable.

During

Our local reporter, Desmond Devoy, wrote an article on it. He took a short video.

We drove home in the dark Friday night, after the two-day deconstruction. All gone.

I went back this week. The plan is to create a right turn lane across here. The traffic moves along highway #43 quite smartly, despite a 60 km reduction in speed through this little hamlet.

The ominous skies near Port Elmsley.

I love the line of clouds. Currently, it is snowing. Winter, bring it on. It is snowing.

Too much rain!

For a change of pace, hubby took me on a drive around Perth and Port Elmsley. I have to show these now, as we had snow and -12 C. temperatures on Friday. Everything here (goldfish pond and frogpond) frozen over!

The quarry, pretty bleak.

Port Elmsley, with the remains of the graphite mill. The remaining wall looks pretty wobbly!

A quiet moment with Annie, burning some sage. Our deer were back in the yard. We haven't seen them in the daytime for ages. The first snow was a shock! So was the sudden drops in temperatures.

I love the power of the water.

Jebb's Creek has a cold tenant

Jebb's Creek, east side of Rideau Ferry Rd.
It was surprising. A beautiful spot. We usually drive by and I sneak a peek.
Jebb's Creek, west
Look more closely, though. We drove into town, and I spotted this critter standing on the ice.

I made JB stop the car on the way back, just across the bridge, and walked back north to see if the critter was still there.

By the time we returned, a couple of hours later, it *was* nestled back in the open water, now on the west side of the bridge, hiding from me behind the snowy rock.

The ice on the east side had melted. No more ice walks for it. The poor thing look frightened and frozen. it really hunkered down behind the snowy rock.

Jebb's Creek runs into the Tay River, seen here in the middle of the town of Perth (settled in 1816).

It regularly freezes and thaws in the colder weather, but it never freezes completely.

The Tay, seen best at the southern end of Wilson St., Perth, is one of my favourite spots.

There is a cafe right at the corner, with outdoor patio in summer, festivals, too.

I am really looking forward to patio weather again.
Port Elmsley, ON - amazing building remains!
